Maine becomes 5th state to allow gay marriage

The reason is probably that the "moral majority" actually isn't moral. (In fact, it seems that the need to flaunt attributes like that only increases as their actual applicability decreases - it's something you can often see in the names countries give to themselves, for example, where "the democratic nation of $FOOBAR" is already a giveaway that $FOOBAR might not be all that democratic after all).

A good decision, though, and a good statement, although I'd take issue with his assertion that it should or would be possible for the people of Maine to take this away again; I would presume that the right to equal treatment described in the Maine constitution is inalienable and not granted by the constitution or dependent on the goodwill of the majority. Or, well, at least I would hope so.

But still, good news. ^^

hopefully nearby states will follow.

Although NY does not allow gay marriage to take place, they do at least recognize gay couples who were married in a different state.... would be nice if they followed Maine's decision.

You hear about the study that showed that the "Moral Majority" is more likely to condone torture of terrorists?

I'd have to look back through my Friends page, but it was in the last week that I saw it.
