Laini really wasn't joking about it being good for Mother to have a friend on the 'outside'. After a quick,
Reassuring Phonecall, she starts getting to work.
Most of the stashing and storing Laini pulled off with their vaguely contraband (or at least, incriminating) goods worked- the cops only found a few boxes of condoms, the inflatable sheep that popped before they could use it, and a few m80's. And while the condoms and m80's could be totally coincidental, that sheep certainly wasn't- so the whole lot got dragged off when the RV was parked in the impound lot next to the police station.
While the cops might think they locked it- they didn't. Not where Laini's concerned.
(And thank god they did not find any of her hardware.)
It's easy enough for her to set things up quickly, and even easier to hack into the station's computer system. Really so much easier. Her Perfectly Normal laptop is from about 10 years in the future of this time, and that's also ten years advancement of the internet and various other programs-
Using magic in a time like this would almost be unsporting.
Almost.
She settles cross-legged on the floor in the back of the RV, laptop balanced on her knees, various other pieces of hardware connected by cables to it, surrounding her on the floor. Laini's grin is less human, and more of a fox spotting an oblivious rabbit.
"Right-o." Laini's fingers fly over the keyboard, and she types in a few commands which show up on a spare (holographic) screen to her right.
Find-A-Felon
Run: Search Recent Records
Parameters: x, x-1 x+1 date; Darryl 'Mother' Roskow (see: Mother.jpg); Black Mesa; Winnabago (see batmobile.jpg)
Command: Seek and Destroy
She raises an eyebrow, and glances at the spare screen. The green beetles in their virtual 'cage' pause by the lines of information, then scurry off-screen. Laini grins, then starts on the station's security.
... Alas, this time period is too early for everything to be automated. Woe. Her ears flatten, and she taps her fingers on the side of the laptop. The problem with pre-Age of Technology?
Is that oftentimes you have to go and do things yourself.
With a long suffering sigh, she pulls up some programs that will work on the prehistoric system the cops here are calling 'computer security', and downloads a few others to her PDA. Setting the laptop on the floor (underneath the table so it won't get stepped on- Laini isn't stupid), she stands up. Thankfully she's still in her ninja outfit from the Black Mesa hijinks-
Laini just has a few other tricks to grab before she heads next door to break Mother out of jail.
