Good Job, Sony

Well, it's about time! It took them long enough, but Sony slashed the price of the PlayStation 3 another $100 (starting tomorrow, that is). That puts the PS3 up on par with the Xbox 360 Pro and Elite. So, the PS3 80GB system will be selling for $299 (same as the Xbox 360 60GB Pro) while what's left of the 160GB Uncharted: Drake's Fortune bundle ( Read more... )

it's about time they slashed the price on that thing. The PS2, because of it's smaller price tag, was outselling the PS3 for a while there.

We have a PS3, and I adore Bioshock liekwhoa.

I've had my PS3 for about a year now, and I managed to get the 80GB MGS4 bundle (the one with partial BC). It was $600+ down the drain, but well worth it for me. Now that the price is lower, people can get on the bandwagon and see what this system is truly about.

I, personally, don't have any interest in getting one still, but I am glad they (finally) lowered the price so that those who do want one, can afford one.

I think at some point you should invest in one. There are some stuff on there that I think you might like. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is really good, as is inFamous. The Ratchet and Clank Future games are really cool as well. Suffice it to say I take my PS3 over a Deathbox 360 any day of the week (not knocking you down, mind you).

Lol, I know no offense was meant, so of course none was taken. And I'm not knocking you or the PS3, I know it's a respectable machine, and there's great games on it, I've just not come across any dealmakers yet. The upcoming Katamari has me a little intrigued, but I think I'll wait a little longer and see if there's anything else that comes out that may catch my interest. It wouldn't be any different from my approach with the previous two Playstations, as I got both the PS1 and PS2 at least 5-6 year into the machine's lifespan.

And, of course, there's always the money issue (with funds being on the tight side for all of us). At least it's good to know that the machine will be at a more affordable price if I ever do change my mind.

September 1st?! That's my b-day!! Nooo!!! It's too soon >.<. I'll still be broke at that time, and I'll miss getting the chunky PS3 ;.;
Damn second gen. consoles DX

Which do you think is better? The 160GB or the 80GB?

Oh, don't worry. The clunky ones will still be available until they run out ( ... )

I think the slim looks retro, in a good way! I do like the piano finish of the older design, but I usually prefer matte finish over the shiny. Didn't the developers also remove the card slot and the ability to install a compatible operating system, i.e. Linux? I guess that means no more possibility for homebrew, right?
