I have not forced myself to sit through Alien Resurrection, but saw Alien3 when I was working at the movie theater. The odd thought that I had, late one night waiting for the movie to end so I could go home, was that the first three movies would be exactly the same except: the first was British, the second American, and the third Australian.

(It's odd to describe Fincher as "Australian", but I'd just re-watched Mad Max and Gallipoli, and the flavor was very similar.)

Also, I agree with you about the opening to Alien3. I can't watch Aliens anymore because I know it just doesn't matter.

I've never thought of the first 3 "Alien" movies as being the same movie made my different nationalities.

It has occurred to me that each "Mission: Impossible" film is the same story (traitor in the IMF, Ethan Hunt eventually on his own) filtered through the sensibilities of 3 distinct directors.
