We agree except that I never looked at Michael like that in regards to Sara. It just never occurred to me to think of his actions in regards to her as stupid so I just never really thought about his actions per se. I never thought he acted differently than any other guy that fell for someone. We sometimes all do 'stupid' things in the name of love. I couldn't and still can't wrap my head about how the love story damaged his character.
In fics, yes, that's a common theme that Michael's love for Linc is closely linked, if not intertwined with obsession. Purely from the show, I never took his going to break Linc out as obsessive. It has never come off that way to me.
I might be sort of off topic, and seem a bit of a foul, if mixing up into such a theme without even having seen Season 2 (it's on its way, though!). But I couldn't resist jumping in and playing around just a little bit, as this topic interests me both as a writer-wannabe, and as an avid reader.
So consider I'm speaking from my first season watching experience :>
Considering T-Bag and C-Note are my favorite characters, I think I'll drop a few words on them, and their reasons. I might also add a few things concerning Abruzzi, with whom I'm having a love/hate relationship against my will (I've recently decided to challenge myself and write 100 pieces of fiction revolving around his life and its meaning).
1. T-BagDear Theodore is not insane. To him, any action he takes is based on sheer instinct. He thinks and acts in a primordial manner, and his main aim tends to be survival. As long as he's got a purpose, no matter what he might have to do at a time or another, he'll do it, or at least take a shot
( ... )
I don't think I've ever come across anyone who said C-Note is one of their favorite characters. Nice to meet you.
I don't know that I ever brought T-bag being in love with Susan. Probably because by that time in S2, I was done with the character and only half paid attention. You make some interesting points and I think perhaps the writers were going for that.
I think C-Note, and Sucre for that matter, are the epitome of doing dumb things for love. Both characters infuriate me in that regard but I still love Sucre because the writers didn't write him such an arrogant, ungrateful, and self-important pain in the butt like they did C-Note.
Hehe, as Abruzzi once said, Your love is your weakness, and they know it, right?
Nice to meet you too, it's always a pleasure to chat on any topic with fellow inmatesfans!
I'll be able to offer a more pertinent opinion on their reasons and acting after watching season two. I began today, and I really hope it'll advance quickly enough.
For me, I guess it comes down to what is and isn't "stupid". Is it really stupid to do whatever it takes to take care of and protect the person you love? When it comes to breaking out of prison- maybe.
The male characters do seem to an extraordinary amount of things that the average person probably wouldn't do, but then again this is tvland and we have to take everything with a grain of salt.
On the other hand, it's interesting what domfangirl said about Michael's capability to love vs. obsess. He certainly seems more intense in his feelings. So maybe we shouldn't consider Michael a "normal" male character in love.
We haven't seen Lincoln do anything incredibly stupid for the girl he loves, but then again we haven't actually seen him in love on screen very often.
Maybe it should all just be boiled down to the fact that love makes people do stupid things, and if these characters didn't make a rash decision or two then we'd probably be debating whether they were actually in love at all.

I believe you are right. I think most of us have been in love or thought we were in love and did things that made us go "What was I thinking?" when we looked back. Being spectators to these characters lives, we can all sit back and be in judgment. I also think a lot of use have such strong feelings for certain characters that we judge unfairly/harshly their actions when they do things we don't think they should do. I think Michael is a prime example of this in regards to Sara. Like I said to domfangirl, I didn't think Michael acted any differently than any other person in love, despite the fact that Michael isn't exactly normal. But if he can do 'stupid' things because of love then he isn't so different from non-geniuses after all.
