Thank you for posting this.

Many people are familiar with the opening words, but this document (which had its beginnings in John Adams "Resolution for Independence" a couple of months before) shows that the issues were widespread, complex, and longstanding.

This very consequential severing of bonds was not done on a whim.

Absolutely. And I don't think most people read far enough or even realize the list of grievances spelled out here in justification for this declaration. Nor do I think do most people see (including Congress) how this list of grievances applies today.

I tried to pay my own bit of tribute to the country in today's post.

History is important; you cannot get a perspective on events without viewing them from the distance and background of history.
