Military vs Civilian Mindset

B: The system being down all morning was a complete disaster!

Me: [thinking] - No.  Your HMMWV driver taking an RPG round to the chest is a complete disaster.  This was an inconvenience.

When asked about military vs working in a library, I like to tell people that the best parts of working in a library are that I get to stay where it is warm and dry, I don't have to eat standing up in the woods, and I get to shit on porcelain. Nobody is shooting at me (at least not at this branch) and people's lives aren't hanging on split second decisions. They don't always seem to get it.

Please forgive the random intrusion - I bounced over to your LJ from the talk_politics community because I was curious to see what you talked about over here. As a fellow veteran... I think this post summarizes the civilian vs. military mindset perfectly, and I found it highly amusing.

1. Is anyone dead? 2. Did anything explode? 3. Is anything burning? 4. Are any of those thing in immediate danger of happening? (Also, sometimes: 5. Did they cancel leave or lose the coffee?)

If not, then it's not so bad. *wink*
