Problem: have had to come into office because Blackboard so slow as to be unusable from home computer. Work being effectively a public place, however, this means I also need not to be a gibbering, screaming wreck - not least because having a breakdown while at place of work is probably a disciplinable offence, also face of the university, yadayada ( Read more... )

I have no idea of the circumstances but serious sympathy over here, I know what the broad situation feels like. When it's that bad it's worth taking a sick day, unfortunately that is the only thing I can recommend. Alternately find a close friend or colleague and nab them for coffee and cuddles.

I really hope you feel better soon.

Sorry I've been away from LJ for a few weeks, but belated hugs. I've fled group meetings on occasion and hid in the toilets on a bad day. I don't really have a solution, but there really has to be a way for you to cut back for your sanity. Or maybe do as some staff do: choose which things you will do well, and reduce the quality of some other things. High-flying (usually male) researchers sometimes sacrifice their teaching quality (in terms of time allocated to it).
My place of work had a free anonymous counselling service. I don't know if something like that would be useful to you. I used it once.
