Arts Binge

One of the key reasons we moved to London was for the arts' scene, though law school has a tendency to get in the way. So what better than a huge rash of tickets to reimmerse us? Over the next two weeks we'll be seeing:
Waiting for Godot (with Patrick Stewart & Sir Ian)
Company (off west-end)
LuLu at the Royal Opera
Parthenogenisis also at ROH (a new ( Read more... )

Very jealous of Waiting for Godot.

What with everything going on I'm not in a position financially or otherwise to buy tickets for ANYTHING right now (although I am getting tickets to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake again at Christmas - do you fancy it, my mother would probably join us)

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not really a fan of Bourne's Lake (or almost any other production for that matter - myvleast favourite ballet) still, I hope you and your mom enjoy it.

Jorge wants to go see Waiting for Godot (With Nathan Lane & Bill Irwin) next time he's in town. We'll have to compare :-)

Definitely! Though I must admit this will be the first time I've seen the show, which may affect my review :). Speaking of Jorge though, when is he next headed this way?

Tough to say - sales numbers are waaay down this year, especially in the UK. He was thinking this summer, but with sales the way they are, it probably won't happen until fall at the least.

I've never actually seen the show myself, though I've read it (and written papers on it) which I know influences how much I love it. From the reviews I've read, the London and NYC stagings are about as different as two stagings of a play can get, acting-wise. Though both are supposed to be spectacular.

I'm sorry to hear about sales, though it's not all that surprising.

See, now I'm seriosly tempted to make a quick trip over to try to see both as well as to be able to pick your brain, but that would be crazy wouldn't it? When is it showing?

That's an impressive list you've got there, Fox!

Will be interested to know your thoughts on Godot. I was set to book until I saw Patrick Stewart's name listed. After his pale performance in Hamlet, I just couldn't subject myself to more.

Yeah, I've been underwhelmed by him twice now and enchanted once. He is one of my favourite screen actors and it breaks my heart not to give him a chance.

Speaking of lists, would like to add some Wigmore to it for when we get back from our cruise *hint hint*

I didn't realise PS was one of your faves! Put it that way and I completely understand the urge to book. If Christian Bale were to come to the West End even as something as ridiculously inappropriate as Tony Lumpkin, I'd book. Several nights.

Did you know PS won the Olivier for his Claudius? I know my taste is a bit off centre but goodness. o_O

Wigmore, eh? That can absolutely be arranged. I'll try to put together a list of choices. =)
