It's the 8 gig, but I'm totally stoked. I'm not going to be able to fit my full collection on even the 16 (it's about 40 gigs, presently), so winnowing it down is already going to happen.
Of course, now they're going to release a 16GB, 3G iPhone at Christmas time, and I'm going to laugh at myself. ;)
See I have no interest in an iPhone at all (and really should have no interest in a new mp3 player either as mine works just fine - cumbersome, but fine), so something like this is right up my tech alley.
I want one too! I just bought a Treo 680, so I'm not going to need an iPhone even when it comes out in the 16gb...so I'm thinking the Touch will do nicely for my music and video requirements! Waaaaant....
how are you finding the Treo by the way? I have a Tungsten (which is only one year old, yet another reason I don't need an ipod touch) and like it very much - except for not having wireless access.
I *love* it. It's such a gorgeous all in one device. I have the one with the Palm OS, and it's just so easy. Nice sized screen, full keyboard (which takes practice, but you get there in the end), and not too big considering all it does. Texts are displayed as threaded chats so you can keep track of the entire conversation with one person, which just tickles me happy. Loads of software available, though I find the onboard stuff pretty intuitive. I am able to get the internet on the phone and prefer using Opera Mini to Blazer, which is the built in browser. Wi-fi would make it perfect, but Palm hasn't got there quite yet.
I am so tempted by the iPod Touch, but it has so many worryingly similar features, that it makes me wonder if it's worth it just for the shininess factor of being able to flick through my music and videos. I like the big screen for the videos most of all, and it would be superb for those transatlantic flights when the on-board entertainment isn't quite up to par.

I suffered from serious iPhone envy when it was released this summer and was actually glad that it wasn't available in Sweden, because had I been in the U.S. I probably would have dropped the 600 smackers for it! Now I'm totally lusting after the Touch...and since I don't have an mp3 player, it's going to be hard to resist buying one when they become available here.

There are times when I'm happy I'm severely deaf. This is one of those times. I'm happy with CDs and Nextel & amused by bleeding-edge froth.
