A couple of months back, I brought a Linksys WRT54G v5 wireless router. The v5 was the latest back then, and the v5 also means, you weren't able to flash the firmware (back then *snicker*Everything was fine for 2 weeks, and then one fine day, the router just stopped working. Yeah. It's a known issue...seems they had a defective batch that went all over Asia :)

I did the same too, I'm not using the Cisco/Linksys adapter now.

I have so far not had that problem (touch wood), but I know if it.

The issue is only with the adaptors shipped in India, the 110v ones that they ship in the USA are much sturdier. I should know, because being the lazy guy, I just used my 220v->110v convertor with the 110v unit that I got (my router was bought in the USA) and it has survived just about everything the KEB has thrown at it. :)

But I should get a non-linksys spare anyway. What did you buy, where, and how much? What rating? The original is 1.5 amp!

Maxcon, Jayanagar 4th Block (the shop right next to Book Paradise), Rs.200 and 12V, 1A. That was the original blown adapter config too.

woah weird. yeah, i got the wrt54gl a few weeks ago, running dd-wrt just fine now :)
unfortunately it's $5-20 more to get the linux version, if you can even find it (like, newegg has it, but that's pretty much it).

Yeah, that's part of the dumbass marketing strategy. They sell the GL only in very few places and only via websites AFAIK. Actually, Newegg is prolly the last place to have the model...
