He was silent, his ears perked as he watched as the remaining few on parol came to join the ranks of those stood in the entrance of the waterway. Ranulf wouldn't let anything go unnoticed.

Ranulf couldn't help but wrinkle his noise slightly as he sniffed and tasted the air - it smelt off. Too tense, too mysterious, like something was just waiting to happen. But he couldn't be sure - it might just be the waterway and the smell of water which he'd never been fond off, or it might just be the fact he'd grown used to the metallic smell of the sub again.

He could tell one thing, though. "The weather's been clear for a while," he voiced, his face pulling into a very light frown. "Almost a week." That was abnormal. But there was no taste of wind or water in the air. None.

Squall took a deep breath as he joined the group. It felt like he'd near forgotten to breathe these past few however many weeks of being confined in the Sub, and to be out in the field was a blessing. Shade seemed to be returning back to his old self, too, which brought reassurance. But with no recent recon efforts prior to this, they may as well be walking in the dark. Monster locations and territory could have largely changed since the last mission. He was on high alert, back straight, observing, his hand unconsciously resting on the hilt of his sword.

When Ranulf spoke, Squall cast his eyes back out of the waterway and up to the sky. "Probably cleared the fog to lure us out. Give us a false sense of security." He didn't look concerned, even as the possibility occured to him there could be traps, waiting to be sprung.

"But they use the fog to fight battles, don't they?" Jenny frowned. She couldn't be entirely sure on that fact, but she was sure the more experienced members in terrain would know that or not.

She'd come without a second thought. Getting away from Shade for a while... might do her mind some good. And, try as she might to say that she liked sitting on the Sub twiddling her thumbs, she did prefer to be active, outside, in the fray, getting things sorted. "Wouldn't you say it was kind of... worrying if they're not fighting? Like they're up to something?"

"Who cares?" Nena cut in cheerfully, flicking her hair out of her eyes and peering around at the other members of the patrol team. "At least we're finally doing something! I was getting so bored in there," she heaved an overdramatic sigh, crossing her arms. "And hey, this place looks way better without all that grimy fog."

Nena had come along quite simply because she was bored and lonely, and Nena Trinity (and those in her immediate vicinity) did not do very well when bored and lonely. Being one of the few who genuinely enjoyed missions for the sheer adrenaline rush, Nena had jumped at the chance to join in.

“I’m with her,” Edward remarked casually as he swaggered up to the group with his hands tucked into the pockets of his red coat. He fully understood the seriousness of the situation; the world outside the sub had changed during the time that they had been cooped up inside and yet from his body language and the bored expression on his face it was clear that he wasn’t taking it too seriously. “So there’s no fog, big deal. That stuff reeked anyway. Let’s just get going.” He gestured loosely before striding on ahead with mismatched steps, his boots sloshing through the shallow water.

(OOC: Gnah! Sorry I'm late!)
