Just tell me you don't say it ka-fetch. Because Evan's mother, bless her heart, tried to pull that one on me Sunday and once I realized what word she was trying to say, needed to take a second to cry a little bit.

How to explain it? Well, the K isn't aspirated. You say the K at the same time you make the labiodental for the V, so it's almost not two separate sounds. And you don't have to voice the V too much; making it sound F-ish is no crime. I'll give you audio samples and live commentary when we hang out ;)

Nah, I pronounce it kind of like, "ke-VETCH", with that first "e" being a schwa sound (I can't get IPA to work on my computer, dang it). I just can't get rid of that schwa sound. Although I didn't know that the V sound wasn't required to be labial, so that helps a bit. I think it sounds a little bit closer now...meh, I'll have you show me when we hang and I'll teach you how to squeak loudly enough to shatter glass. Or...something...
