About new S1-induced migraines

Dec 23, 2011 21:27

LJ users complain that they have migraines after reading comments in a new "style".

An interesting effect, and it has an explanation. The fact that the eye when reading always scans the entire field of view, making a lot of intangible micromovements. Text fields, that don't contain the information are omitted by consciousness, but they eye still read them.

Now look what these bastards did with comments. They almost doubled, and if we consider the spacing, then more than doubled, the size of areas of the screen, that do not carry any useful information.

And now your eyes need to make twice as much micromovements to read the same number of comments.

For some users, it causes headache. Some will quickly have their eyesight weakened - after each contraction muscles controlling the movement of the eyeball and the lens are slightly restored, but if they are made to work in a forced mode, then - you got it.

In any case, this new "design" causes discomfort in 98% of the users, about the rest I could say for a couple of screens, but I won't. I'll limit myself to the remark that all of their intellectual power is barely enough for "thank you!" or "was convenient." Soon they won't be able to write even that, but to hell with them.

What am I getting at? To the fact that SUP has already moved to the direct physiological sabotage. And you can get into trouble with compensation for damages for that. Not in Russia of course, but in a more reasonable countries.

It would be nice if someone from the more civilized but no less bastard comrades would started a small but loud trial against these cretins.

ETA: Also worth mentioning that the old blue bars on comment pages were flat and greyish-blue.

The new blue bars are a lighter, brighter blue, and have a gradient, lighter at the top of the bar and darker at the bottom.

This means your eyes try to see the new bars as 3-dimensional, where the old bars were just flat and 2-dimenional.

So, another way in which the new bars take more effort from eyes and brain.

It's also an explanation for why some people say the new bars seem to "pop out" from the page, or "float" and "move" against the background. - zelieh's comment

I'd recommend adding ?style=mine after .html in the address bar or, if you're a paid user, you have an option of viewing other's ljs in your style.

Seems like there is a workaround - http://stuntpilot99.livejournal.com/93240.html It gives back Verdana, adjusts font sizes a little, and puts a light grey background to pages.

AND THIS SITE WILL BE EVEN WORSE FOR YOUR EYES - http://www.artlebedev.ru/everything/livejournal/prototype/ (It's not a prototype itself, it's a page with links to various functions' future look).

wtf!!!
