[Yuan's returned from the draft, only to find his house in shambles. Sliced armchairs, lacerations in the wall, upturned furniture, broken floors thanks to Ground Dasher magic... And of course his curtains have been torn. The damn curtains always get damaged. The room he just finished redecorating is a lost cause. Hopefully, the Malnosso will fix ( Read more... )

mithos sucks, draft, lost ring, leave the curtains alone!

Dead? By your hand, I presume? [whatevs, brah. Have a scoff.] I'd like to see you try. [...Actually, no he wouldn't, because there's a fair possibility that Yuan would succeed. But this is how one appropriately handles threats.]

[He storms back to the journal, slamming one fist on the desk next to it.]

You- Where did you- [He takes a deep breath that fails to steady him.] Did you take the rings?

[The rings. Were they having this little chat in person rather than via the journals, it might feel like the temperature had plummeted about fifty degrees suddenly.]

What would I want with something so thoroughly repulsive?

[He had taken one look at the inscription in the rings and instantly felt strangled by a deep contempt and overwhelming fury. "Eternal"? What was so "eternal" about it? Eternity didn't end before 4000 years was up. Prior to discovering the rings, he had inflicted relatively little damage on Yuan's house. The sight, the mere existence of those two small rings had incurred the brunt of the destruction.]

[Yuan's not surprised that Mithos would find the rings repulsive. Hell, he has mixed feelings about them himself, too. When he had those things made, he was actually deluding himself that he could be together with Martel in Luceti. That in a place where death is irrelevant, they could finally get married.

Then he found out the hard way what a stupid idea that was. Even so, he still couldn't bring himself to get rid of the rings. He hid them away in a drawer, a tiny part of him still hoping that some day they could be put to good use.]

Where did you leave them?!

I see no reason to tell you. You have no right owning such a thing.

I have every right! Now tell me where you left them!

Who do you think you are? You betray my sister and go against her wishes, then you think it's all right to have wedding rings made? To put your filthy initials next to hers? It makes me sick.

[He's slamming his fists on the table again.] I had wedding rings made because unlike you, I did understand her wishes! I understood them all too well and put my selfish wishes aside to respect them! That's what it means to love someone- Something that you could never understand!

[Oh, how he wishes he could wring Yuan's neck right now. Instead, he digs his fingers into the chair's arm and pretends it's Yuan's throat.] Don't you dare imply that you love my sister more than I do! Nobody love her more, especially not some lowly traitor like you. Everything I've done has been for her sake, and I'm not going to let you spew lies that say otherwise.

[Deep down, Yuan knows this is the moment where he needs to stop talking. Where everything he says is just digging his own grave. He can't help himself, though. All those things he's wanted to shout at Mithos for centuries- Everything that he'd been cropping up for so long to keep his cover while he led the Renegades in secrecy... It's all just flooding out.]

For her sake? What a joke! It was all for you! If you really cared about her feelings, you would've let her have her rest instead of forcing her to suffer for four thousand years! And don't even try to delude yourself otherwise, Mithos! She suffered greatly.

Of course she suffered! She suffered because the world remained as hostile and prejudiced as ever, no matter how many years passed! I wanted to end that suffering and give her a world where she could live without the fear of being persecuted. That's what she dreamed of, what we both dreamed of. Yet that dream was ripped away from us, by you, by that arrogant son of Kratos', by everyone who got in my way! That is why Martel suffered so greatly. [...Oops, the arm of that chair is now broken.]

No! She suffered because countless people became victims at your hand! At our hands! Martel would never have wanted anyone to die for her sake, but you slaughtered thousands! We all did, because we were stupid enough to follow you. That you can't even see that just proves how far gone you really are.

[He shakes his head fervently, his voice turning into a deadly hiss.] You were wrong, Mithos. You were wrong then and you're still wrong now.

Shut up. I'm not wrong to love my sister, and I was never wrong to do everything I could to protect her from a world that didn't want us. I'm tired of being told otherwise. Nobody understands how I feel, and I'm just sick of it. I refuse to admit to mistakes that were never committed!

You refuse to see them! You're blinded by your own damn arrogance! At this point, Martel herself could say you were wrong and you still wouldn't believe it! If you can't accept it, then suit yourself, but stop trying to drag other people into it! I'm sick of you and I'm sick of having to deal with you!

Martel would never say that! Don't you dare suggest such a disgusting lie! I hate how you think you know my sister better than I do - you're even more infuriating than Raine. If not for the nature of this world, I would do us both a favor and kill you.

[If only, Mithos. If only Yuan had the luxury to just die. It'd solve all his problems. Sadly, that'd just leave the rest of Luceti to deal with Mithos, while he still considers it his own responsibility to make sure Mithos doesn't do anything stupid.

Suddenly feeling very tired, he reaches out to close the journal.]
