[Right now, Naoto wishes that these past few days have been a really really bad dream.  But unfortunately, they weren't and thanks to that, she's even more self conscious than usual.  Why must the Malnosso torture her?  Not to mention, her last encounter with Sora was well...not the best one so that doesn't help.  Her voice comes abruptly

From what I understand, "listening" is key to forming a pact with Nala. Her presence isn't restricted to one specific area, so you should be able to concentrate and reach out to her in your mind.

After that, it's just a matter of deepening the bond and picking up the skill. It shouldn't take too long since she's supposed to be very friendly.

Miss Sage's guide contains a brief but informative section on the spirits. The library should have more reading material on them, and you're always free to ask the other locals.

Are you interested in learning other filial magic besides Nala's?

I'll have to review both the guide and read the books at the library. Hopefully I can find a few people here who have talked with Nala.

Possibly, though at the present, my main concern is learning healing abilities from Nala.

Since she's easily the most accessible spirit, I'm positive more than half the population that's contacted any of the spirits has communicated with Nala at least once.

Is it so that you can offer medical assistance to those in need . . . ?

That wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Precisely. I only know how to dress wounds...though that doesn't seem to be enough some of the time.

It's still something. If you were in a magicproof zone, that knowledge could save lives.

I suppose that's true. [She's just tired of only knowing that and coming upon a situation where something more is needed]
