Help? (virus / trojan issue)

Julia is having problems on her computer with the Vundo / Virtumonde trojan. There seems to be a lot of advice out there online, much of it contradictory, all of it suggesting that it is damn hard to get rid of. Here's my experience with Vundo and how I got rid of it.

Vundofix never worked for me. Here's the link to Trojan Remover, the software that finally wiped it out.

I hope it works for you guys, too.

Thanks! She's downloading it right now and will give it a shot. She was having the same problem you were - programs were finding the trojan but didn't give her any way of removing it, and all that internet advice seemed really well beyond anything we were willing to do.

I did download it, and it removed some things, but there are still problems. Virtumonde/Vundo/whatever isn't showing up anymore on any of the scans I've run, so it seems like it might actually be gone. Now the main problem is one of those fake antivirus programs (XPAntivirus) which is proving very difficult to root out, and is actually a lot more obviously disruptive (with popups and such) than Vundo was.

Argh, that sucks. Maybe Spybot / Adaware / AVG can get at it now though, now that Vundo is gone?
