What is up with all the dang spammers?!?

I don't know how this happened, but apparently the spammers have finally discovered my LiveJournal.  I just spent 20 minutes locking comments on the random old entries that they're suddenly leaving daily comments on ( Read more... )

Oh, hey, yeah, this reminded me that I got an e-mail about a spam comment last night. Something about what I assume is a "get rich quick working from home" scam. There was no message in my inbox when I popped into LJ today, though, and the comment is now gone, so I guess the LJ anti-spam people banned the account (thank you, anti-spam people). I have no idea how stuff like that is profitable, though.

And I totally understand you about the icons and journal style. For the first time since I got here, I am seriously considering changing my "home base" away from Livejournal due to the friends page redesign. (Have you heard about that? I am saddened by it.) Even if I do that, though, I still wouldn't be able to give up my icons and my customized journal, at least not yet. Even if I were to use this as a secondary account, I would want all my little 100x100 squares of awesome at my disposal to properly illustrate my thoughts. ^_^

(The store brand jaffa cakes I just bought are stale. Did I bring this on myself?)

I have heard some things about redesigning (mostly that everyone hates everything about it and can't figure out LJ's motivation for the changes) but haven't looked at all the details. It's like redesigns on Facebook: there's nothing I can do about it, except accept them when they're forced on me, and quit visiting the site if they annoy me enough. I have experienced the "clicking on the LJ cut just expands the post rather than taking you to the poster's LJ", which annoys the living shit out of me. Some of my friends do have color schemes that I can't stand, but...it's their LJ. Going to it is like visiting their house. It reminds me of them and makes me a little happy. And it feels like I'm being told to just stay in my own little box and not visit them. That may be irrational, but it's my gut reaction.

I know that fandom communities have a lifespan, and the one I was in is pretty much dead and buried, but I just hate to completely lose touch with everyone. Even though half the people never touch their journals any more, and I ( ... )
