Aha, WAIT! Santa Clause is dead?! Then who's that man who comes into our house every Christmas and eats our cookies? O.o
Grim humor, the two words that seem to make my day every time I see them together, especially next to each other. I 'twas thinking something along the lines of Lorenzo following Giovanni in Florence after an assassination of like a courier or whatever. Ideally, Lorenzo is young enough to realize that yes, that is Giovanni Auditore and old enough to know that Giovanni just murdered someone and killing is wrong.

Ever since Lorenzo had been rescued from drowning, he’d made it a point to look for his savior on his outings around Firenze. He couldn’t help but want to know more about the mysterious Samaritan; he’d assumed, when his mother had explained that the stranger had saved his life, that the man was after money or political favors. But though he clearly recognized Lorenzo and his mother, he’d graciously declined any offer of reward. He’d politely declined to give even his name, and when pressed, he had simply bowed and smiled - and disappeared into the gathered crowd

I'm glad you liked it! Little Lorenzo was so much fun to write, all commanding at eight years old, even to an assassin who's just killed right in front of him (and Giovanni all taken aback at how in stride Lorenzo's taking this ^_^)

Oh, this was so cute <3 I do love little Lorenzo, already so commanding towards his future assassin XD. My favorite part was when he so quickly dissected the political situation and approved of Giovanni's actions.
And the ending was perfect! This is the Lorenzo I love - the one who'd only employ and respect an assassin with a sense of justice, who's not afraid to challenge him. Lovely!
8 year old Lorenzo finds out that the man who saved his life actually ends lives, too...

Anyhoo, how would OP want this? 'Cause anon here imagines grim humor.

Just to confirm, you did want a 2 year gap between when Giovanni rescued Lorenzo and when Lorenzo finds out he's an Assassin?
