Harry's Apartment [B36] - Olympian Meadows - NYC

Apr 07, 2005 05:10

The door is open, the warm flicker of the fireplace glowing on the wall opposite his door. Harry is inside, making a simple soup and, at this very moment, slicing a sandwich in two and setting both halves neatly on a small, simple earthenware plate. A blink and he checks the soup, lifting the lid to take a smiling wiff of it before dipping a ( Read more... )

There's a light knock on the door, and Bran is there, leaning on the doorframe.

"Hey. You busy?"

A small warm smile and a shake of the head from over the divider between kitchen and living room. He follows it up with a beckoning hand, the other raising the soup cup in invitation.

"Nah, thanks, I've eaten. Just felt like getting out of the cave for a bit, actually talking to someone who isn't pixels on a screen. That, and I haven't seen you for a while."

He shrugs and gives another warm smile, gesturing with one hand to the only other chair at his small table. He gives Bran a slightly amused look before shaking his head and taking a spoonful of soup.

And in the doorway stands a woman, who reaches out, knocking on the open door. "Hey, got a minute?"

She looks annoyed, as if she doesn't have time for whatever issue she's here to talk to him about.

He gives her a warm smile over the divider between kitchen and living room before giving a shrug. The grand total of the gestures is that he's always got a minute for her and she should know that by now. He holds up his cup in invitation, though he does so with a very small grin that indicates he knows almost before asking what her answer will be.

She steps inside, shaking her head no. She doesn't want coffee, because that would mean sitting and talking and that's not on the schedule.

And she does know that he'd always have time for her. She just wants to make sure that she doesn't abuse that. And she doesn't for the most part.

"My car is dead. I went to turn it on, there was a pop and that was that. And while I do not have any meetings today and technically have the day off there were a few things I wanted to take care of. Apparently that is not going to happen.

"But you can fix it."

It's not a question in any way, it's a statement of fact. There wasn't anything Hephaestos couldn't fix. Athena truly believed that, because nothing had proven to better the God. And because he was a dear friend, though she didn't say it. She knew he knew.

He gives a nod, answering 'of course' both to being able to fix it, and to the unspoken request for his services. He would help anyone in the complex if they asked for it...but for her? He'd invent a new car. And somewhere she knows that just as he does, but neither of them will ever say it aloud because he's quiet and doesn't speak much and she's proud.

He lifts his soup cup again, this time in a silent request to finish his meal quickly.

She doesn't even knock; just breezes in with a smile.

"Harry, you busy? I've been up to my elbows in vagina all day and could really use some male conversation to keep my mind off it," she says, barely stopping for breath. "Can you believe it? I mean, really, why'd I bloody take the job anyway? Why am I working for shit? Harry? Harry, are you even listening?"

She turns around to look at him as she sits down.

"Ooh, soup. Got any spare?"

He smiles, shaking his head to the first, then the second, shrugging at the third and forth and finally rolling his eyes and nodding to the fifth. The last has him standing again and hobbling over to the stove to pour her a cup of soup. He also uses the fixings still out to make her a sandwich, even though she didn't ask for one, because he knows her well enough. A plate and a spoon added for ease and he limps back, placing the items before her with a warm smile and a kiss to the cheek before he returns to his own seat to eat his own meal.

"You spoil me," she says with a grin before taking a bite of the sandwich and a sip of the soup. "So anyway, how was your day? Got a zillion and one requests for odd jobs yet, or did you get them all finished before nine this morning just as I got my first break?"

She smiles at him and tucks in, making gestures with her sandwich as she eats that accompanies nothing but perhaps a story she's meant to be telling.

"...and then they made me their chief. and then, can you believe it, she actually asked me - and I really couldn't help myself but laugh, just a little - if she could get pregnant from having sex with her girlfriend. She really didn't know. It's incredible. I swear, the sooner I get the money together for the health clinic the better."

He shrugs, brushing any work he might have had right off of her concerns because it most certainly is done for the day and has been done long enough for him to have made the soup and the sandwich and clean up a little.

Another shrug as she shares her woes.

"You wouldn't believe what I found in an engine." He offers in return.

Jack raps on the door lightly, a basket on his arm.

"Salad for your soup? They're from my garden."

He grins and nods his head, welcoming him in and pointing to the soup pot, then to the soup bowls on his counter. Another nod gives him the location of the spoons and then Harry starts munching on his sandwich. Halfway through a bite, he swallows, washes it down with soda, and smiles.

"Visiting the dungeon?"

Jack takes the basket of vegetables to the sink and begins washing them. "Wouldn't harm you to come up into the sun sometimes. But as you're reluctant, I bring the sun to you." He shows Harry a red tomato bursting with ripeness.

"Wouldn't harm me. Stairs might."

He gives a light kick to his lame leg and gives Jack a smirk.

"Besides...why should I? I've got delivery vegetables whenever I cook."

"I still can't believe you actually like drinking that crap."

He knocks, then, on the door that maybe hadn't been open when he first came by.

... but hey, they're practically family.

Pan leans against the doorframe.

"Evening, Harry."

He smiles, giving a brief chuckle at a man who's family quite without the 'practically' before he gestures at the soup. Another look to the chair across from him indicates quite explicitly what he should be doing.

The flash of a grin he'd maybe deny, and then he walks in, helping himself and sitting opposite.

"Interesting day?"

"Knocking."

And it's a bit of a grumble and a bit bitter and maybe even the tiniest bit angry. He's a god of the forge but also the flame, and the god of volcanoes as well. The temper sits below the surface, but it's there.

"Someone's been spreading my number around."
