Ah, yes, the old "my one irrelevant data point should determine national policy" argument. I wish someone would tell the author of this letter that we now have these places where people can go--us Yankees call them "universities"--where he can go to find out why he's stupid and wrong.
Notwithstanding that the so-called ER doctor (1) has no idea why the paitient owns what she owns, (2) should focus on medicine, not checking out his patients, (3) is probably in the wrong field if he "could not help noticing her payer status," (4) is apparently so lacking in basic knowledge about economics, politics, government, and the requirements of citizenship that he fails to realize that Congress "expects him to pay for this woman's health care" because she (and everyone else) pays for his, one basic fact stands out: you can't go from "she smokes" to "crisis of culture" in two sentences and expect it to be anything but bullshit propaganda. How does this nonsense even get published?
I just LOVE those that judge people that are on some kind of assistance programs. How dare they have a nice car/nice clothes/buy that nice steak/buy junk food/whatever. Do they not realize that those things may have been purchased before they hit hard times or been given to them? Perhaps they bought those nice clothes at a second hand store. It is a fact that junk food is cheaper and easier to obtain that fresh fruits and vegetables so poor people often buy what they can afford.
I think that Doctor Starner needs to take a class in empathy and compassion. Also one it how not to judge others.
One more thing-unless he came from a very wealthy family, he likely benefited from programs designed to help him get his degree. People that live in glass houses should not be throwing stone.
