The 2009 Teen Choice Awards

A recap of the fashions worn by a few young actresses:
Miley Cyrus, 16. We'll start off with Destiny Hope Cyrus -- or, as she chooses to call herself, "Miley." It's hard to choose the trashiest thing about Miley's outfit. Is it the super-short mini skirt? Is it the loud, messy jewelry? Or is the fact that her bra is visible through her tank top? But what else would you expect from the girl who did a pole dance later in the evening?
Abigail Breslin, 13. I can't believe she's 13 already! So far, Abigail (who attended hand-in-hand with her My Sister's Keeper co-star Sofia Vassilieva, 16) is aging so well. The pink patterned dress is fun and age-appropriate, without being babyish or immature. Her hair strikes a good balance too, looking elegant but not too formal for the event. The only thing I don't like are the boots; they're too big, and the brownish-red color clashes against the pink of the dress. If she'd worn smaller black boots instead, the outfit would probably be perfect. Sofia's similarly-patterned blue outfit complements Abigail's dress perfectly, and side by side together, they're an even cuter pair of young actresses than Dakota and Elle Fanning.
Isabelle Fuhrman, 12. Isabelle is new to the spotlight (she co-starred with Dakota Fanning in Hounddog and got her first lead role in Orphan) which might be why she took such a misstep with this outfit. The drab, shapeless dress is in no way flattering. I mean, she has no waist, no body at all in it, and the flats only emphasize that. (Why not tiny heels? Those would've been cute and age-appropriate.) The bland purple color stands out too much against her pale complexion, and is it just me, or is the dress just a tad too short for a 12-year-old? The assymmetrical hair looks messy and severe, and her smile seems... odd. Keeping her lips together when she smiles -- and she did this in every picture I saw of her at the event -- gives her mouth pinched, pointed look, like she's just eaten a lemon.
