I love both films, but if I had to choose between Danielle and Ella, I would definitely pick Danielle. I really admire Ella's strength and optimism, but she lacked the snarkiness that I love about the 1950 animated Cinderella.

Unlike Ella, (who seems to stay in an abusive household because the place holds too many memories of her family??) Danielle stays mostly because she has no other place to go. At one point she's even sold... making it clear that she was very much a slave in her own household and had no freedom. Despite this, Danielle doesn't always put up with the abuse (the part where she punches one of the step sisters for insulting her mother is BADASS) and Danielle also frees herself in the end. Ella doesn't save herself, she accepted the fate her step mother had planned for her (which made me very upset), and is only rescued by sheer luck.

Still, I really enjoy both films and watch them often. I would say that Cinderella (2015) is very aesthetic pleasing and more entertaining for kids. While Ever After: A Cinderella Story ( ... )
