THE 2015 BET AWARDS
Held June 28, 2015, at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted by Anthony Anderson & Tracee Ellis Ross.
Quvenzhane Wallis, 11, was nominated for the YoungStars Award, which she lost to 14-year-old Little League pitcher Mo'ne Davis. Her movie
Annie was nominated for Best Picture, which it lost to Selma.
Okay, I have to be shallow here and wonder who is picking Quvenzhane's outfits. Like the dress that she wore to the
Kids Choice Awards, this one is very shapeless and sack-like. Remember all the adorable, colorful outfits that she wore when she was making the awards-show rounds for Beasts of the Southern Wild? This dress (which is really too baggy and bland to even be called a dress) isn't cute or flattering. I know I should back off, because maybe this really is what Quvenzhane herself wants to wear, and also because how she dresses really shouldn't matter, as long as it's nothing inappropriate. All that matters is that she is a great actress with smart, responsible parents.
Yara Shahidi, 15, attended to support her black-ish TV parents, who hosted the event and were nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress. The cast of black-ish
usually makes events a TV family affair, but for these awards, Yara's TV little sister Marsai Martin, 10, doesn't seem to have attended.
Zendaya Coleman, 18, presented and was nominated for the YoungStars Award (which she lost to Mo'ne Davis). Zendaya was nominated in this same category last year, when she lost to
Keke Palmer.
