Former child actress
Skye McCole Bartusiak never reached the child-star celebrity status that some of her contemporaries did. (I imagine her career might've been very different if she hadn't started out at the same time as another precocious little blonde girl,
Dakota Fanning. Dakota's career had a rather eclipsing effect in the young actress world.) Skye's sudden death, on July 19, at age 21, didn't cause a huge reaction on Twitter... but it certainly did on the Twitter page of Abigail Breslin, 18. Skye and Abigail first met in 1998 and have stayed friends ever since, attending several events together over the years. After she learned of Skye's death, Abigail posted a series of tweets in her honor.

On July 19, after news of Skye's death first reached her: "One of my very good friends and someone who was like a sister to me, Skye McCole Bartusiak passed away today. So devastated." In response to rumors that drugs were involved in Skye's death: "Rumors are just rumors, to everyone creating them out there. Skye's passing was tragic, not something to gossip about. RIP Skye Cole. I love you and will miss you."
Abigail also posted the below photo of herself and Skye together, with the simple caption:
Sisters forever, RIP Skye
Abigail also retweeted a few posts made by young actress Scout Taylor-Compton, 25, who was also friends with Skye. Scout posted on July 19: "I'll miss you and keep our adventures close. No words can express. Thoughts and prayers to her family. RIP Skye." A few hours later: "You will be incredibly missed skye. Please everyone pray for her family." In the below photo and caption that she tweeted, Scout is second from the left, next to Skye in the center.
Mika and Skye as sisters in The Patriot
Another heartfelt message came from Mika Boorem, 26, who costarred with Skye in two films, Riding in Cars with Boys and The Patriot (where they played sisters). On July 20, Mika posted the below photo of herself and Skye in The Patriot, along with this message: "We lost a great talent yesterday. I was very blessed to have worked with someone as talented as Skye and to have had her as a friend. In her short 21 years, she contributed so much brilliant acting to film and television. She will be missed dearly for her amazing abilities and the love & warmth she brought to everyone. Having had the pleasure of working with her on 3 films, I am saddened there will not be a fourth. Skye you will always be in our hearts! #skyemccolebartusiak #Skye #love."
Aside from Abigail, Scout, and Mika, few celebrities tweeted anything about Skye's death, but I think the sincerity from these three, especially their concern for Skye's family, is a fitting tribute to a young life cut tragically short.
