Remembering Philip Seymour Hoffman

Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died suddenly of an alleged heroin overdose on February 2, 2014, in his Manhattan apartment. He was 46. In his twelve years of acting, Hoffman earned three Academy Award nominations (for Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt, and The Master) and a Best Actor win for Capote. Last year, he starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Jena Malone as Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and he was still filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 at the time of his death. The movie resumed shooting a few days after Hoffman's death; he had reportedly filmed most of his scenes, and the release dates for the two-part Mockingjay (set for November 2014 and November 2015) shouldn't be effected.

Jennifer Lawrence, 23, released this joint statement together with Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence and author Suzanne Collins: "Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest condolences go out to his family." A number of other current and former young actresses paid their own respects to the late actor via Twitter.
  • Isabelle Fuhrman: "Such a brilliant actor and man gone way too soon. Rest in Peace Philip Seymour Hoffman." Isabelle played Clove in the first Hunger Games movie. Hoffman's Plutarch debuted in the second.
  • Sarah Hyland: "RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman. You were a tremendous actor that I had always admired. Thoughts are with his friends and family."
  • Lucy Hale: "Unbelievably heartbroken to hear about Philip Seymour Hoffman. One of my favorite actors. RIP."
  • Melissa Joan Hart: "I am incredibly saddened by the passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman. I loved his versatility and energy as a performer."
  • Vanessa Hudgens: "Wow. Philip Seymour Hoffman, My heart hurts to lose him. SUCH a talented man. Truly, One of a kind. He will be so very missed. RIP"
  • Martha Plimpton: "Addiction is real. It is a real & vicious disease. It rips beauty from the world. Please, if you suffer, ask for help. You're not alone."
  • Evan Rachel Wood: "I am sad on so many levels about the loss of Philip Seymour Hoffman. One of the greats. Losing him this way is absolutely tragic."
  • Bonnie Wright: "RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman. What a truly great actor. Many respects"
