The 16th Annual Critics Choice Awards
Held January 14, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
I was so excited when the Critics Choice Award nominations were announced back in December. Their Best Young Actor/Actress category is sometimes one of the weaker groups, but this year, no less than four young actresses earned five nominations in that category!
Elle Fanning -
Somewhere.
Jennifer Lawrence - Winter's Bone.
Chloe Grace Moretz -
Kick-Ass.
Chloe Grace Moretz -
Let Me In.
Kodi Smit-McPhee - Let Me In.
Hailee Steinfeld -
True Grit. Winner!
Chloe was unable to attend the award show, since she's still in London finishing up Hugo Cabret (just today, she tweeted, "Fun-ness at the wrap party... London, you'll neverr [sic] forget me") but Elle, Hailee, and Jennifer were all there.
Elle, 12, wore a high-necked, long-sleeved dress with intricate flower detailing on the bodice and beading on the skirt, with beige heels with gold ankle straps. Oh, Miss Fanning. I wonder if she's not a particularly difficult young actress to pick dresses for? At only 12, she's already so tall - and often looks older than she is - that it's hard to find an age-appropriate outfit that doesn't look babyish on her. The white babydoll dress she wore to the
Women in Hollywood Tribute looked years too young for her, but the dazzling blue number she donned for the
Somewhere premiere was perfect. This dress works well enough.
Hailee, 14, wore a one-shouldered, nude-colored dress with strappy yellow heels. That might sound like a too-adult outfit for 14-year-old, her fresh face and loose hair kept it age-appropriate. I loved the shocked, giddy joy on her face when she won. (She was also nominated in the adult category, Best Supporting Actress, but she lost to Melissa Leo for The Fighter.) I wish her best of luck at the SAG and Gloden Globe Awards, and of course, I'm rooting for her every step of the way to get
that possible Oscar nod. This year's Oscar nominees are scheduled to be announced on January 25 - just ten days!
Hailee's acceptance speech: "Thank you. Wow. This is amazing. Um, I first and foremost want to thank Joel and Ethan, um, Scott Rudin, and everyone at Paramount, um, Meredith and Carol, everyone at ICM, everyone at Coast, um, David, my parents, my mom and dad, my brother Griffin, uh, my God, this is amazing. Thank you so much. Um, everyone out here, and Lord, thank you, Lord."
Jennifer, 20, was also nominated in the adult category, Best Actress, but she lost to
Natalie Portman for Black Swan.
And best of all... group pictures! Aren't they so cute together?
