--------
Daiki found himself standing in front of his desk again and looking at the calendar, he started counting the days until his birthday.
“A few more days huh? I don't know if I’ll ever be ready…” sighed Daiki as he plopped back into his bed when he heard hurried footsteps just outside his room and a sudden bang. Opening his door Daiki found his dad collapsed outside his door.
“Otou-san!” cried Daiki as he helped his dad up
“….” Mr Arioka said nothing but gave himself time to compose himself before turning around to face his son “Don't worry about me Daiki, I’m just exhausted”
“You sure?” asked Daiki who was still worried about his dad
“Un” said Mr Arioka as he pushed himself off the wall and hid his back from his son whilst he staggered back into his and his wife’s room.
---------
Hearing their door open Mrs Arioka turned around to see her husband limping to the bed, pain clearly evident on his face.
“Are you okay??” asked Mrs Arioka as she rushed to help her husband and to check for any wounds. Lifting his shirt, she came face to face with a big open cut on his back. Standing up and grabbing a wet towel Mrs Arioka started helping her husband disinfect the wound. Ever since they lost their powers to Daiki any wounds or cuts they receive take a long time to heal, including the one Mr Arioka has now.
“The council is getting out of hand... they’re starting to take suspicion” whispered Mr Arioka “I’m afraid we won’t be able to hide Daiki from them any longer”
“Is that so?” said Mrs Arioka as her hand stopped tending to her husband’s wound “I-… Daiki is not ready yet”
“I know” sighed Mr Arioka as he saw the desperate look on his wife’s face but he knew the truth “Maybe it’s time for us to tell Daiki the whole truth”
“No… It’s too early” refused Mrs Arioka “Let’s just… Let him be like this for now…Please, even just for a while longer let him be free of any of this…”
Mr Arioka fell silent as he completely understood what his wife wanted, he too wants to let Daiki live a life free of conflict, but alas it’s not possible. Being born with a heavy burden to carry Mr Arioka felt the guilt eating him up. Silence surrounded the couple as they tried to think of the best solution that would keep Daiki safe.
----------
Daiki woke up the next morning and went out to look for his parents only to find that the house was empty. Shrugging his shoulder Daiki decided to just get ready.
“Hmm… I wonder where they went” thought Daiki “Ah! I’m going to be late”
Daiki left the house and saw that Yabu and Hikaru were waiting for him just outside.
“Morning Dai-chan!” greeted both Hikaru and Yabu
“Morning guys!” smiled Daiki as all three of them started walking after a while, Daiki felt like there was another presence with them. He decided to ignore whatever it was that was following them, even though it felt the same as last time there was something a little different this time. Daiki didn’t like it; he didn’t like this weird feeling rising in him.
“Um…. Guys why don’t you guys go ahead I uh… Forgot something” said Daiki and before the two could say anything he dashed off. Whatever it was that was following him this time he didn't want it near Yabu or Hikaru, it was something more dangerous and fierce. Daiki stopped when he heard a slight growl from behind him, turning his head around he saw a man.
“A vampire?” thought Daiki as he tried to look closer “No…?”
Daiki watched the ‘vampire’ cautiously, this one was much different from the first one he saw. This vampire had dark grey skin close to rotting and red eyes, Daiki slowly stepped back knowing deep down that this was something he shouldn't come close to. Before he knew it, the vampire leapt onto Daiki knocking him into the floor. He shivered at the cold touch and breath on his skin, Daiki struggled to get himself free. It was emitting a bad smell, like a rotting corpse that was chucked away and forgotten.
“What is this?!” shouted Daiki as he struggled further and avoiding the sharp claws and teeth that were aiming for him.
“Daiki-sama run away you will be killed” said a familiar voice
“Ryutaro is that you?” whispered Daiki
“Yes, Daiki-sama” answered Ryutaro “This vampire is different from the first one. This one turned into a level E vampire that went berserk for power and from the look of it, it has been following you around lately. It was attracted to your powerful scent and its purpose is to kill you and absorbed your soul so it can gain your power, you have to run now!”
“I would if I could!” shouted Daiki who was still struggling to get himself free “Dammit! Get off me!”
Daiki’s fist flew in front of him and managed to muster enough strength to land a hit before making a dash for it.
“Don’t tell me this was the kind of problem I’m going to have to face?” thought Daiki as he found himself running towards his own home. Daiki saw his parent’s waving at him but he didn't have any time to wave back, he concentrated on just getting there safely.
“What’s wrong?” asked Mr Arioka as he looked at his panting son
“That...That thing! Is that a vampire?” asked Daiki who was trying to catch his breath and pointing at the thing that was still chasing him. Mr Arioka saw what his son had been talking about and immediately got in front of Daiki. Daiki’s mum started pushing him towards the house and shut the door. Daiki felt his knees give out and found himself on the floor.
---------
“That’s the council’s doing, right?” asked Mrs Arioka
“Yeah they want more power to overpower the four clans that they experimented on other vampires and turned them into this” said Mr Arioka
“What do we do now?” asked Mrs Arioka “We can’t let them find out about Daiki just yet”
“Don’t worry everything will be fine” reassured Mr Arioka as he watched the level E stop just right in front of them.
----------
Daiki heard a lot of crashing before a howl of pain was heard, shutting his eyes close Daiki heard the door open before his mum hugged him tightly, reassuring him that everything was going to be fine.
“Is-… Is it dead?” asked Daiki in a small voice
“I’m sorry dear” whispered Mrs Arioka, seeing how shaken her son was Mrs Arioka shook her head sadly “It’s not yet time for you to find out about this”
Daiki looked at his mum with her hand on his forehead before finding himself falling asleep and the last thing he saw was the tear-filled eyes of his mum.
“When the trials begin I hope by then you’ll be strong enough to stand on your own” whispered Mr Arioka as he carried his sleeping son back to his own room.
-----------
With a yawn, Daiki opened his eyes only to close them again as the sun blinded him, with a groan Daiki willed himself to get up.
“I hate mornings” whined Daiki as he got up and started getting ready before going downstairs to greet his parents.
“Oh hi honey...” greeted Mrs Arioka “Do you remember anything?”
“Hmm... Was I supposed to remember anything? Is there any special occasion I forgot?” Daiki asked his parents hoping he hasn't forgotten anything important. He watched as his parents exchange relieved expression. Shrugging his shoulders Daiki ate his breakfast and went to school. As Daiki took a seat he noticed Yabu and Hikaru standing in front of him with a frown on their faces.
“Anything wrong?” Daiki asked
“What do you mean anything wrong?” frowned Yabu “We were worried about you!”
“Eh?” Daiki was completely confused as to why Yabu was upset
“You just took off yesterday and never came to school” said Hikaru obviously sensing the confusion in Daiki’s part
“I-… Don’t recall taking off?” said Daiki “What are you talking about? I went home like the usual and went to bed?”
“What do you mean? You said you-…Never mind” sighed Yabu as he pulled Hikaru with him to sit down
Daiki was now confused as he had no idea as to why Yabu and Hikaru were upset with him, all he remembered doing was going home last night and sleeping. Then again since the day Daiki find out about his heritage nothing in his life makes sense anymore. It wasn’t long till the day ended and Daiki didn’t feel like going home at all, taking a detour to a familiar place, the park where he collapsed. As he looked around he remembered when he first met Takaki, a small smile appeared on his face.
“I wonder where you are right now?” thought Daiki who started walking and looking around. Seeing as there was no one around Daiki sat in the shadow of the trees as he felt himself being lulled to sleep by the wind.
- Daiki’s POV -
I felt something poking me in the face, I brought my hands to grab whatever it was that was annoying me.
“...What?” I opened my eyes to bring whatever it was that I caught and to my surprise it was a finger “Eh?!”
“You’re so cute~ Dai-chan…” said a sweet voice
“Dai-chan? Who-…”
I looked towards my left and my eyes nearly bulge out when I noticed Takaki sitting close to my face with a smile on his face.
“Ta-…Takaki-san?”
“Ah! You still remember me~” smiled Takaki “How nice~”
“Why are you calling me Dai-chan?”
“But isn’t your name Daiki? So, it’s Dai-chan right?” grinned Takaki
My heart begun to race seeing that childish grin on his face and images from our previous meeting came rushing back and giving me a good enough reason to blush.
“You’re so cute~ and chubby” grinned Takaki as I felt him grab both my cheeks
“Stop that!”
I swatted his hands away from me and scooted away from him. From the corner of my eyes, I cautiously watched him sitting on the floor and gazing across the park.
“Call me Yuya…” said Takaki
“Yuya?”
“Yeah Yuya and I’ll call you Dai-chan” said Takaki
- End of POV -
Both Takaki and Daiki sat in silence as the two stared out the park, neither made a move to break the silence that took over.
“I never really got to thank you for last time” said Daiki
“As I said it was no problem” smiled Takaki
“No, no” insisted Daiki “Is there anything I can do for you?”
Takaki contemplated on Daiki’s offer before an idea hit him and gave Daiki the biggest grin he could muster.
“Actually there is…” started Takaki as he stood up and held his hand towards Daiki to help the boy up “Go on a date with me this weekend~”
Daiki froze from where he was trying to stand up and looked at Takaki before a blush decorated his face.
“I-... Uh…” Daiki tried to make coherent sentences “Why?”
“What do you mean why? You asked if there’s anything you can do and now you’re questioning me?” laughed Takaki as he gripped Daiki’s wrist tighter and pulled him towards him “Don’t you want to have a little date with me?”
Takaki watched the shorter boy for a minute before he began laughing at how cute Daiki was being.
“You really are cute aren’t you” smiled Takaki as he looked at Daiki
Feeling all his blood rush to his face, Daiki looked away before pushing himself off the other boy. He knew Takaki was teasing him but it was affecting him hard.
“I-… Only because you helped me out the last time” said Daiki as he refused to look back at Takaki knowing what his face looks like.
“Give me your phone” said Takaki
Daiki fumbled through his pocket for his said phone before watching Takaki punching something in and hearing a soft ringing and saw Takaki had called his own phone using his.
“There” smiled Takaki as he gave Daiki his phone back “I’ll text you later about our little date Dai-chan~”
Daiki didn't say anything but watched Takaki disappear before looking at his phone and cursed as he saw what Takaki had saved on his mobile.
“Argh… Why’d he put a heart on his name” hissed Daiki and turning back towards the direction Takaki had disappeared to “Takaki Yuya huh?... Such a mysterious guy”
