--------

Hearing the birds chirping Daiki slowly opened his eyes only to close them as the sun blinded him.
“Argh... Don't want to get up” moaned Daiki with a gasp he realised he fell asleep in the garden, standing up he went inside the house finding his mum cooking breakfast. Hearing the garden door open Mrs Arioka smiled at his son.
“Better get ready or you’ll be late” smiled Mrs Arioka
“Alright” said Daiki as he went upstairs to get changed but not before marking another day off. With a sigh, Daiki took his uniform and decided to change before going back downstairs.
“Here you go” said Mrs Arioka as she served his breakfast in front of him
“Itadakimasu” Daiki whispered before digging into his food, as he looked at his watch he realised he was going to be late. Stuffing the rest of his food into his mouth he ran to put his shoes on before running out.
“Who was that guy? His voice was so familiar” Daiki began to remember his dream not noticing the figure sneaking behind his back.
“Boo!” shouted a voice behind him successfully scaring the living daylights out of the Daiki. Turning around slowly with a glare Daiki slapped his friend on the arm.
“Hikaru… What was that for?!” glared Daiki who only received a massive grin making him even more frustrated at the taller guy.
“It was because you were staring into space like a weirdo,” said Hikaru
“Why you-…” Daiki wanted to tell the older guy more but he began to feel a little dizzy and stumbling on the floor. Daiki clutched his face as he felt like his jaw being ripped open, the pain was intense rendering him whimpering against Hikaru. He could just about faintly hear Hikaru’s worried voice but there was a much louder whisper of voices which Daiki could hear in his head, it was calling out to him. It took a while for Daiki to return to normal.

“Do you want to go back home?” asked Hikaru, worry was evident on his face
‘No it’s okay’ said Daiki
‘Are you sure you’re alright?’ asked Hikaru
‘Yeah I’m Okay’ said Daiki as he nodded to Hikaru before the two of them begun walking towards their classroom where a lanky boy greeted them.
“Well, aren’t you two late today?” said Yabu
“No, the bell hasn't even rung” protested Daiki

----------

It was during the afternoon where Daiki felt nauseous again, ducking his head on his desk he heard voices again. This time it was much louder and intense that it kept on vibrating and making him feel sick and heavy, Daiki could just about make out what they were saying ‘Daiki-sama, help us to unite the vampire clans to stop the feud and stop the Councils to awaken the Demon King and ruin the balance”. Daiki felt someone shaking him by the shoulder he lifted his head to see Yabu and Hikaru looking at him with concern.
“It’s time to change classroom” said Yabu “Are you okay?”
“Un... Just a little sleepy” said Daiki as he followed the other two out and into the science lab. Chemistry; Daiki’s arch enemy in the school, he cursed in his head as he begun to listen to the lesson when he heard Yabu whimper in pain.
“Ouch” said Yabu
Daiki turned around to see Yabu had given himself a paper cut, Daiki’s hand flew to his face as he felt a numbing ache in his jaws once again. Looking at the freshly cut finger Daiki’s grip on his jaws tightened as he felt his once short teeth growing sharper. Panic crept into Daiki as he found himself standing up and rushing out of the classroom, leaving a very stunned sensei and murmuring students.
“Sensei, I think Dai-chan wasn’t feeling well” said Yabu as he begun to cover for Daiki “I’ll go check up on him”
Receiving a nod Yabu stood up to search for his short friend. Hikaru did nothing but watch the whole thing with a knowing look.

---------------

Daiki found himself crouched down in an empty hallway close to the infirmary, as he found himself panicking. Hand still holding onto his jaw, Daiki’s eyes closed as he felt stabbing pain.
“Is it supposed to be this fast?” thought Daiki, hearing his name being called Daiki turned around to find Yabu running towards him.
“Are you-…” Yabu stared at Daiki for a minute as he noticed the for a second his friend’s eyes glowing a soft pink before continuing his question “Are you okay?”
“Yeah” answered Daiki hand’s still covering his mouth as he tried his best to ignore the nagging pain in him and the soft whispers of voices. Daiki felt Yabu’s grip on his shoulder as the lanky boy helped him up and into the infirmary. Finding no teacher inside Yabu told Daiki to just lie down on the bed and without much effort, Daiki dove under the safety of the covers. There was an itching urge in Daiki’s throat as he felt Yabu coming closer to him, biting his own arm he felt tears filling his eyes.
“I’ll let you rest here for now, I’ll check up on you later” sighed Yabu not hearing an answer he decided to leave the boy alone. Hearing the door close Daiki let his arm go and peeked under the cover making sure Yabu had indeed left. Staring at his arm there was a distinct teeth mark on them, one Daiki dreaded to see. Placing a cloth over his arm Daiki for once let everything sink in, fear filled him knowing that sooner or later his friends might be in danger from himself. Going back into the bed Daiki found himself falling into a deep slumber.

- Dream -

Daiki heard a familiar voice again, the one he’s been hearing every time he falls asleep. Opening his eyes, he saw nothing but darkness, turning around Daiki saw the same guy he saw the first time.
“Who are you?” Daiki asked
The boy didn’t give him any answers but smirked and started to walk away from him, Daiki found himself following the boy where it led him to a scene pretty much out of a drawing. In front was a castle that was heavily decorated with black gems, Daiki saw the hundreds and hundreds of figures surrounding the castle all were wearing heavy armours. Within the pool of armoured figure, Daiki’s gaze landed on a certain familiar build. Squinting his eyes, he felt like he knows that person, but Daiki could not put a name to it. Coming in front of Daiki the boy did nothing but give a warning.
“This is the demon king’s castle; this is where you will find yourself soon... be careful but don’t worry I’m always by your side and were connected through here” touching Daiki in the chest the boy slowly dissolves into nothingness but a gentle blow of the wind that wrapped itself on Daiki.

- End of Dream -

Opening his eyes Daiki, he remembered where he was and sat up where he found the school nurse doing some paper works.
“You can stay here till you feel better” smiled the nurse
Taking his gaze from the nurse to the clock on the wall, Daiki decided against himself to return and go to the library. Slowly he scanned every aisle till he found what he was looking for, scoffing at himself for being ridiculous Daiki sat down and started reading.

“According to the legend, it was said that the current Crimson clans have no heir, in other words, the leader of the clan hasn’t produced an offspring.” Daiki read before he stopped and begun to wonder what his parent had said. Too engulfed by the book Daiki didn't notice Yabu and Hikaru walking towards him.
“Yo Dai-chan!” greeted Hikaru “Glad to see you’re feeling better”
“Huh? Oh, it’s you guys” said Daiki as he closed the book and stared at his friends
“What’s wrong with you today? You’ve been so out of it” asked Yabu who's gaze landed on the book Daiki was reading “Vampires? Do you believe them?”
“Eh? Yea-... No, not really” said Daiki as he pushed the book away not really wanting to dwell too much about the book.
“Say, if you find out that one of your friends is a vampire what would you do?” Daiki asked with full seriousness that caught the other two off guard. Daiki was never the one to ask something so serious like this.
“What are you saying?” asked Yabu who was trying his best not to laugh at the penguin boy
“Just curious” pouted Daiki “Pretend I never asked”
“Well okay? To humour your question then I don't know” said Yabu “Since that will never come true”
“I guess” agreed Daiki who sighed and looked at the book before he felt Hikaru’s stare on him. For a minute Daiki thought he saw recognition in the boy’s eyes before looking away.
“Weird” thought Daiki as he watched Hikaru look away from him and back to Yabu who was still trying his best not to laugh. Daiki stood up to return the book he’d taken when a certain conversation caught his attention. Stopping, Daiki began to eavesdrop.
“Did you know there’s a pure blood here in this school?” said a voice
Unconsciously Daiki let a gasp out alerting the group of boys towards his way, panicking Daiki looked away and back to his destination. Peeking from the corner of his eye he saw one boy smirking like he knew something I didn't.
“What am I doing?” whispered Daiki as he brought the book back “I’m getting so paranoid”
Time was an enemy for Daiki, he found that the days ended quickly and before he could even blink his birthday was just around the corner. As Daiki got closer to his birthday, the slow but progressive changes in him begun to be more prominent and gives Daiki a constant reminder of his heritage.
