Hey all! I was driving for 15 hours yesterday (!) so didn't have time to post, but yes, I have seen the news (thanks for sending it in anyway, though!) :)

Ryan Reynolds will be playing Green Lantern.

My first reaction was pure glee because: more Ryan Reynolds! But I didn't even consider the possibility of him not doing Deadpool as a result - I hope that doesn't happen. I don't mind a slight delay in the Deadpool solo film as long as it means a better final product though.

Yeah, if this affects Deadpool I'll be HELLA mad. But I can't see Reynolds taking Green Lantern if it means forgoing Deadpool, since he's been wanting to do a Deadpool movie for years. I assume both are going forward. I HOPE.

Well the kicker is that Ryan is contractually obligated to do this role. The studio extended his hold, so when they ended up picking him, it was something he had to do or get suuuuuuuuued.

I'm going to do an entry with my not-PC thoughts on this.

Ah, as long as the 'Pool film happens I'm good. :)
But ryan may be a one of the few things that could get me to give Green Lantern a try again.

Agreed on everything. I just hope he can do a stellar job on both - but I have faith. After all, he's Ryan Reynolds. LOL.

I've heard a lot about how this confirms that Deadpool was not a real possibility.

I haven't seen that anywhere yet. IMDB listed Deadpool several weeks ago, along with lots of news sites reporting it as definite. Do you have any reliable news links? I'd be fairly surprised to see that, considering Reynolds has been wanting to do a Deadpool movie for YEARS. I hope it's not the case.

Well, I'm only going by my "inside sources" who aren't 100% perfect, but far more reliable than IMDb. Fox has announced DEVELOPMENT on the movie, but that was after Wolverine's opening weekend- the movie took quite a tumble after that opening period, and its likely interest cooled on the studio side. I expect Fox will hire a writer, a script will be written and unless it's a genre masterpiece, nothing will come of it. Fox did the same thing when "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" opened, hiring J Michael Straczynski ("Changeling," "Babylon 5") to write a script for a "Silver Surfer" movie. Once that movie shit the bed at the box office, the project was scrapped.

Well, even though I am inclined to be pessimistic too, I am really hoping that's not the case. *crosses fingers* I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
