For such a small device, these things certainly deliver quite a shock, don't they? I'll have to get used to using this. I wrote a lot back at home but all of it was in paper journals, which were polite enough not to shock me when I didn't use them. They did passive-aggressively sit in the corner and collect dust, however, which was not a desirable ( Read more... )

There are some people who don't understand the notion of prices, you know. Not everyone is entirely sane... or reasonable... or even care about what they pay in exchange for what they want.

Murdering a doctor, revivable or not, is like shooting oneself in the foot, I would think. I would hope the person would have reason for it.

I'm aware of that, but there are always consequences. It goes without saying that someone who commits murder is insane, but this would be a special kind of insanity. What are the chances that someone like that has been here for any amount of time and no one has noticed?

Unless they don't need a doctor for whatever reason.

Perhaps it is someone who had their chip removed only recently. The doctor screens her candidates, I'm sure, but those who want to do harm are most likely to lie about their intentions.

And as for being able to act normally and then suddenly begin to murder... human beings without any sort of powers are certainly capable of such a turn-around.

Well, even if they don't need a doctor themselves, they aren't thinking very far ahead. If they plan to continue to injure and murder people, they will need someone capable of patching them up. There are the scientists, of course, but to kill the doctor is like killing the sheepdog that should keep track of your sheep.

Of course, but the sorts of people who would be capable of hiding their intentions that well are capable of long- or at least medium-term planning. They wouldn't engage in wanton killing, especially of a doctor, because it's generally not good strategy.

Is there only one doctor here?

You just got your first one, huh?

[Private; totally hacked, too]
That has been bothering me for a while, as well. I'm not surprised to see people take lives for granted, but in this kind of wide scale... It's almost as though life has lost all value, if it can be so easily replaced.

So it would seem.

[Private; also not minding because it's you ♥]
Do you really think that's a factor in this? That actually scares me somewhat.

Whenever will you and Mokona learn from me~?

[Private; as well you shouldn't ♥]
There are too many factors playing a role in this; different people from too many different worlds, clashing timelines, the very apocalyptic feel of this place and, of course, the fact death is not permanent. It gives off this illusion that people have nothing to lose, and those are the most dangerous kinds.

It's not that I haven't been using the device; I just didn't see fit to say anything.

That makes a lot of sense, unfortunately.

Some people do take lives simply because that is what they do.

That makes sense if I don't think about it too much, but lives are pretty expensive things.

... I suppose I'm glad I didn't put anything sensitive under that filter.

You say that as if you can actually put a price tag on it.

Indeed.
