I like the first choice on tags for the same reasons repogirl91 gave.

I think the second option for tagging would be much more convenient. It would be easier to go straight to the "language" or "musical" section than to have to look through tags for the various shows etc, and it would look less cluttered.

I'm with linguology. I think it makes searching through the tags easier. :)

How about a compromise:
a) ! for general stuff (!gift, !request, etc.)
b) # or something for languages (#german, #dutch, etc.)
c) No "special character" for musicals. (elisabeth, rebecca, etc.)

That way, the languages would be separate from the shows, so the tag list would look more organized, yet tags wouldn't be super-long.
