transfering in general teh_fox December 12 2007, 21:41:27 UTC
i transferred from penn state to fordham and i regret it. i thought that i hated penn state, but when attending fordham, i realized that i just hate college in general.

the biggest issue is the transferring of credits. i am still catching up on gen eds and will be until i freaking graduate. i know that fordham has a bunch of obscure core classes like faith&critical reason and all that jazz, so other schools might not take those credits and if they do, they might not apply.

basically, if you transfer, plan on spending an extra semester unless you find a magical school that will take all your credits and not try to screw you over (if you do, please let me know where this magical school is so i can transfer there and get my degree.)

this isn't really the info you're looking for but a little anecdote...

i had a great first semester, and a terrible second semester. for everyone else it was the other way around. fordham was my first choice, my DREAM school times infinity. if i had gone through with transferring, i would be at rutgers right now. i was home sick, not very confident in general, not so sure of myself, and the "friends" i had first semester basically started ignoring me.

the place you belong is there, it just takes time finding it. just give it time. it's really hard here, in terms of school work and in terms of social things. finding your "thing" takes a while. sometimes transferring is the best choice. but for now, spend time with the people who truly make you happy and who are genuine and do things here that you really really look forward to doing.

goooood luck! :)

I went to fordham for one semester and then I transferred to Ohio State. It was really easy to transfer for me. As for credits transferring, all of mine did. I got actual credit for the history and the english and the computer course and elective credit for french and math. Getting out of Rose Hill was the best thing I ever did. I mean I liked the shcool, but I'm so much happier now!

I transferred from LC to St. John's after a year. Same deal... loved Fordham, but I had to get out for my own personal reasons. Unfortunately it was a very late decision (the August before my sophomore year) so financial aid wasn't too kind to me. Though not nearly impossible, Fordham does make it as annoying as possible for you to officially get out (the following fall they told me I wasn't attending the classes I had registered for, even though I wasn't in the school anymore, and that if I didn't officially withdraw from them I would fail them and they WOULD show up on my transcript, wherever I was - it got sorted out, obviously).

Make sure you're doing the right thing. I loved St. John's with every fiber of my being (today's my last day!), but I still miss Fordham and always wonder 'what if.'
