The State of Music

Let's talk a bit about music. This video has been floating around the internet for a while and you've probably seen it before. Basically, a guy with a guitar is lamenting about the overuse of that iconic bit of music from Pachelbel popping up in all sorts of pop music.

Pachelbel and those four cords sound really good. They go so well with everything, no matter what you do. So they make a good foundation. Sure it's cheating but those songs are amazing aren't they? And those amazing songs make a lot of money for the industry and karaoke bars everywhere. lol

But back to the foundation bit. I think that's why people just never really notice. It's just the foundation of the song because everything else about the song is usually different. I've probably listened to Poker Face and Paparazzi back to back, and never noticed they used the same four cords. I get all caught up in the vocals and other stuff.

Anyway, you could always listen to more indie music? Popular music isn't the end all be all of music. And I think with the internet we have way more access to the underground.

And now I'm going to go listen to some Journey and Lady Gaga.
