It was not unusal for Robin to leave her a message to meet her somewhere if she had gone for a walk, usually because she wanted to wash up a little, so she didn't think anything of the note. She wasn't in a rush and grabbed the dagger she could slip into her boot just in case something happened. Not that she had a feeling that she would end up in trouble, after all the place he wanted to see her wasn't all that far away and not many things could happen within such a short distance. She could yell loud enough for them to hear her at camp if need be ( ... )

It was not all that very long before Robin heard Marian approaching, but in the minutes between his return to the clearing and her arrival, he kept finding things to straighten. He had not been this nervous (in a non-life-threatening situation) in long enough that he could not really say when the last time had been.

Possibly, it had been the last time he had set up a picnic for her. This one was as close to identical to that picnic as he could manage-- but one big difference was that he had remembered to watch this one, so no animals had gotten to it.

By the time she reached the last arrow she had a fair few in her hand and her curiousity had only grown. Something must have happened for him to be slightly playful in such a way. If he wanted to talk to her or spend some time alone with her, he would have just waited where he said he would meet her. But once she looked up from picking that last arrow, her breath left her. It had been a while since he had done something like this; acted how a man courting a woman usually did.

"What is this?" she asked him with a smile, a little dazed as she looked around at the picnic. At the back of her mind she worried if he had taken this from supplies they desperately needed but who said they had to eat every single thing there? No, she wasn't going to think about that. For once she was going to focus on just Robin and what he had done rather than worries. There was no need to worry after all, they were well prepared for the winter.

The trail of arrows had seemed like a good idea as he set it up, but he had not considered that she would wind up with a veritable bouquet of goose feathers by the time she was done. Going over, he mumbled, "Sorry; I can take those."

Once he had set them aside, he was able to smile a bit better, although his nerves had kicked up even more with her presence. Even in clothing suited to the forest instead of her fine gowns, and dressed for the cooler weather, he had never seen a more beautiful sight.

"It's a picnic," he finally replied. "I have owed you one for several years now, so it is about time I repaid that debt."

She took a few of everything he had bought and was glad when she saw it was far from a feast. If he had taken anything that would really be needed for those in Nottingham she would be reluctant to eat it. They lived on little to the people could eat better and she wouldn't have it any other way. At his question, she looked up at him with a laugh.

"I am just thankful you have not cooked again."

He was skilled in many things. Cooking had never been one.

Robin laughed at her reply. "I am trying to show you that I love you, not drive you away. Although, I have picked up some cooking ability over the years." Making a face, he admitted, "Rudimentary cooking ability, yet I would not starve if left to my own devices."

It was odd-- a good kind of odd-- that he even appreciated that she was aware of his shortcomings like that. While he did not often like to think of the past, it was good to know that she was aware of most of that past (and, what she did not know, Much did), so it did not exist solely in the back of his head.

"Or kill me," she said with a grin as she pulled off a little bit of bread and popped it into her mouth. She liked this; being calm and cheeky with him. They may do it often but Marian always felt like she had to keep any teasings quiet just so the gang didn't feel like she was taking Robin's attention away from his friends or the things they should focus on.

She looked around as she chewed, taking in their surroundings. She was glad he seemed to put a lot of thought into it, it made her think that he wasn't just doing this to keep her happy. If he was he wouldn't have set it up like this.

"Never that," he said softly, not wishing to think about when he had almost lost her. Instead, he watched her eat, taking pleasure in sharing such a simple pastime with her; they had not had enough opportunities like that until recently, and he was not about to take it for granted.

"Do not worry, I will." She knew she would, even if she almost liked something or wanted to pretend she did, he knew her too well for her to fake it with ease. He would be able to sense it and it was much better for her just to be open and honest with him. Neither of them were expecting anything specific, or were after a certain thing from this. It was all a natural way of progressing and, after all, it wasn't really needed for them to worry too much. Not yet ( ... )

Robin was very happy to hear her say that about the engagement; apparently, he needn't have worried so much about the proposal-- not that he regretted the worry. If ever there was a time to be concerned that something go perfectly, this was it.

As she gasped, his eyes drifted over her face, taking in the look in her eyes, her lips slightly swollen from their kisses and parted so enticingly; then lower, to where her breast rested in his hand between them, underneath the cloak, his fingers darker against her pale skin. "Lovely," he murmured reverently.

She felt her cheeks grow warm at his appreciative gaze, before she grew even more confident. He had that look for her and no one else. He was seeing her as who she was, as a woman and not a possession or something to grab at and not care. Her eyes dropped to his hand as her lower lip came between her teeth as she dropped her own hand against his. After looking back at his face she moved her hand, eyes fluttering closed as it then made his own fingers move in an amazing way against her.

"Robin," she muttered quietly before she dropped the hand that was over his to his chest, running her nails gently over the skin as her eyes opened. Smiling in a way she wasn't sure she had before, more confident and sexual for certain, she leaned in and pressed her lips and teeth to that spot of his neck, her hips moving a little against his own.

When she guided his hand to find a way that most pleased her, Robin's breath came faster. That was so very Marian, exactly what he had expected, and far sexier in her bold innocence than any practiced woman or blushing maiden.

With her nibbling on his neck and her nails playing over his skin, he brought his other hand around, taking care to do as she had demonstrated as he stroked her other breast. The pressure of her hips on his elicited a matching response from him before he considered what he was doing.
