Swiss animal-rights charity launches "pain breeder" lawsuits

Now here's some interesting news. A Swiss animal-rights charity, the "Foundation for the Animal in Law", has sued seven animal breeders under animal-protection law, on the grounds that the breeding selects for characteristics which are inherently cruel ( Read more... )

The oriental owl pigeons are probably targeted because they are bred to have extremely short beaks. So short that they cannot feed their young, so usually foster pigeon parents are used to hatch and raise the oriengal owl eggs.

Hmm, okay, interesting... Doesn't necessarily seem inherently cruel, although it's kinda weird to breed a creature that's inherently non-viable. But then, I guess the same ultimately goes for most of our farm animals.
