I see a market niche for a new product. Some form of bio-available Teflon™-like compound which can be added to a dog's food and which gets metabolised in such a way that it is then secreted in the natural coat-oils, making your dog wipe-clean and resistant to stubborn stains.
One problem I can see with this though: as a food-additive any undigested component would undoubtedly result in the production of dog-turds of unparalleled slipperiness.
If Mischa willingly throws himself into muddy puddles while he's out walking, perhaps he can be tempted to throw himself into (say) a non-muddy paddling pool full of water after a walk, and wash the mud off himself?
Our German Shepherds would always stand still and let us wash them. They made sure that they made us as wet as they were by shaking themselves dry afterwards, though! :)
Washing is one thing, but you neglect to mention the even more traumatic post-walkies grass seed hunt. I don’t know about your Mischa, but our Mischa is a magnet for those tiny barbed nightmares. Failure to extricate all of them can result in sore feet and abscesses, neither of which are fun.
Mischa doesn't seem to have much of a problem with them. I find them in his coat periodically, and pull them out when I see them, but so far we've not had any trouble.
He really is an extraordinarily low-maintenance dog.
