The year in review

It is now one year since I finished my job at The Bank, moved to Germany, and became a gentleman of leisure.

It's been a very quick year.

In a way, a lot has happened. I went travelling in America and Canada, including a canoeing trip in Algonquin with raikawolf; I moved to another country and set up house with akeela; I did a lot of gardening; I learned a lot ( Read more... )

I really envy you, I can't imagine a time in my life where I could just take a year off or three. Did you win the lottery or something? Savings enough to last you 3 years is quite a considerable sum by my reckoning :)

In a sense, I did. I got a good and fairly exotic opportunity (the job at CERN) at a time in my life when I was able to take it, followed by the job at The Bank which pretty much landed in my lap without even the asking, and where the pay was... well, put it this way, I was able to save fully half my net salary.
