The election and its aftermath have generated a lot of new interest in Read Between the Bars lately. Unfortunately most of that interest seems to be from people who want to volunteer for us--or donate books. What we really need is money, though. But my hope is that we can steer some of the new volunteers away from helping us pack books and toward

Aren't there places to list volunteer jobs, like employment listings only for volunteer positions? Maybe you can find fundraising folks that way. But it would be a shame not to capitalize on this outpouring of interest. Maybe you can come up with a few positions that would be useful (fundraiser, web master, graphic designer, whatever you need) so you can offer people something from a list of choices.

I had a suggestion like that at one time, but someone in the group shot it down. I don't remember her exact argument against it. In such a small group where so many things just happen organically, it's always hard to discern how much work on the front end will pay off or will be a waste of time. That might have been her concern. But I do feel that we need to steer some people into other efforts, even if it's just temporarily. On top of running low on funds, we're getting close to caught up on our outstanding book requests.
