I'm trying to talk myself out of buying a laptop.

I want one!   It will be an investment.  Really.  I'll write much, much more in bed, in the garden, downstairs,  on holiday, in the bath....

this is why i hide my credit cards

Get a second hand one. if you only want one to write on then it won't cost you much. Mine only cost £70.00 and it does the job perfectly.

That's very sensible. Unfortunately, my head is nowhere on the side of sensible at the moment (and it usually is, honest).

I am much too much in 'Want new, shiny! Don't have much new, shiny. Want some!'

Which is why my credit cards are well out of reach at the moment.

Having said that, any recommendations on sourcing second hand would be most welcome.

There's a little computer shop in Hyde Park in Leeds. It's on the main road going up to Headingly. that's where I got mine. Make sure he puts on anything you need then and there as he's a bit useless at follow up. But the machine is fine.

Why did I say that? That's like asking the computer Gods to blow it up isn't it?

What dedbutdrmng said. I have a little second hand IBM Thinkpad running Windows 98 which is great for writing on.

Are you two in league? The 'Save Foo From Herself' Brigade?

Because, if you are, thank you so much. I really am trying to be sensible about this because I don't actually need one in the real sense. (It would be really good, though.)

Unfortunately, I get bouts of spending madness - rarely, but when I do, they take a lot of fighting off.

So I keep telling myself to sleep on it - and I'll check out second hand ones, too :)

Uh-oh. Things have escalated, have they?

If you truly want to use it to write, I think second-hand is the way to go. Get one with few bells and whistles. Or get a model geared only for creating documents.

The 'wanna' impulse is definitely escalating!

But the bank balance isn't, which is why I threw it open for general discussion, anticipating that all you good peeps would tell me not to be so foolish *g*

And because I like you all, I might even listen ;)

*lol* Well, I wrote you a long response about how I don't use mine as much as I should for what I intended it for. Such is my house and furniture that it is actually hard for me to get comfortable (maintain good posture -- writing on your tummy in bed is not all it is cracked up to be). You, however, might not have the problem. For long stretches of time (writing time) it is better for me to be in a good desk chair. :-/

forgot to say that I also *deleted* the response, but I guess that goes without saying. :P
