Beautiful story. Well-written, touching... You know it's funny! When he asked for the ring, a part of me couldn't help but wonder what he meant by "finding something more valuable..." Maybe the romantic in me (or the perv, take your pick) sort of hoped he was implying her. I'm such a sucker for the rogueish, pirate/smuggler and the princess stories.

I blame Han and Leia.

I have a hard time believing that Ashe and Balthier would 'hook up' so early in the game. BUT this was very well-written and believable, and I enjoyed it! I hope you'll post more stories soon!

And I'll add more to say that initially I was almost put off by Balthier forcing himself on her, but it probably reads that way because it's from Ashe's perspective - we don't know what Balthier's thinking in that moment. It's revealed later that he does genuinely care about her (Ashe is in too much shock in the bedroom scene to understand that I think), so his earlier actions were ones of passion rather than anything inappropriate.

I'm rambling, sorry! I hope you'll write more for Balthier and Ashe soon!

Lovely fic - great descriptions of Ashe's feelings, and her confusion. I like the way the ring played its part all the way through, even at the end - it helped hold the whole thing together.
