Killing time. Sitting in one of the University of Toronto's libraries, waiting for Pat. He's having his Celtic Studies exam now (and I'm logged in under his account), so he should be done shortly. Afterwards, we're going for a celebration to Gabby's (a pub). Incidentally, they've got half-price wings today, so it all works out well.

Books I have to ( Read more... )

books, pat

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are by Mark Twain. :)

Quite a reading list! I envy your speed reading. Though I guess the reason I read a bit slower is so I can really get into the emotions and stuff while I'm reading, especially so with fanfic. I've been reading brainless chick lit books like mad these past few weeks - to the obsessive point that I'm behind on homework. *sigh* (Then again, I'm always behind on homework anyway. *g*)

Hope you enjoyed the pub! :D

Gah! I'm so glad you pointed it out to me!! I realized my mistake today when I was at school, and was expecting to come home to a whole bunch of comments about how stupid I was, claiming to be an avid reader and reading so much, and making such a silly mistake. ;) Well, you're the only one who noticed. :P

I guess speed-reading is a little misunderstood in that way. It may seem like when people read fast they can't wallow in the beauty of literature and savour it, but it's not true. I do all that and enjoy the books throughly - it's just I can't help how fast my eyes run over the letters. :P Sometimes, when I really want to slow down, I read out loud. xD

And thanks!!! Enjoyed the pub. Pubs rule!!!

I didn't meant to imply that you aren't able to enjoy it as much; that's why I'm jealous, in fact. It's that I can't enjoy it as much if I read faster. That's what I meant. :D

Glad you enjoyed the pub!

And if you want Dickens, I can recommend Bleak House- although it does help to have an interest in law for that. Beautifully written though.

You might also enjoy "The Unrest Cure" by Saki- very short, and can be found here:

Hehe. I was mistaken. Tom Sawyer isn't actually written by Dickens, and I totally knew that. Don't know why I made such a silly mistake. :P

I have all of Dickens's books on my Reading List, actually, but, to tell you the truth, Dickens and I don't get along at all. I find his stuff extensively boring, though he does have some good things as well. I read his Great Expectations, and found the title ironic. I had great expectations from that book - it being Dickens and all - and was disappointed, because nothing happened.

So, did you like the Saki?

I like the way he manages to develop characters in the space of 6 pages :D

:) LoL Nah, not at all. I'm a speed-reader - that's a normal amount of books I get through in that time along with having a life. ;)
