[As soon as she's got him on the line, she locks the feed to Riku's 'Gear only. It's not something she normally does-- but then, it's been sort of foolish of her to have been leaving all her conversations open. She'd just assumed that no one would care enough to try to listen to any of them apart from the one she was having them with. Which had probably been true, but better safe than sorry now.]

[In any case, she sounds a little relieved to hear his voice-- there's no sign of that playful tone she's usually got when she talks to him this time.]

[He might not sound sure of it, but the fact that he's saying it at all means he's okay enough that nothing terrible has happened-- YET.]

He told me to ask you what he was. ... I pretty much told him to go jump off a bridge, but... I wanted to make sure you were okay, too.

[that really gets him going, that she saw it and Vanitas told her to ask Sora about it. he knows Heather isn't actually asking him, but really, it's a question that'll be keeping him up at night for days. he'd more or less almost drowned in darkness back home, but somehow... seeing himself in that guy brought him way too close to the darkness and evil for comfort. like it was somehow him in some roundabout way that nearly killed all those people in New Bark Town. it made Sora feel ill.]

I-- I don't know why. I didn't-- I thought-- I just...

[okay, Sora, slow down. let's try finishing an entire sentence without going a mile a minute in twenty different directions.]

[Heather's not a motherly person. She never has been. In fact, she's pretty sure it's impossible for her TO be, after everything she's been through along those lines-- so what she's feeling right now ain't maternal. ... Maybe 'sisterly' was a good word for it.]

[But no matter what you called it, seeing the normally ever-cheerful Sora stammer miserably like this was yanking on some heartstrings that Heather doesn't normally remember are even there.]

... Sor-- ... Sora. Don't apologize. It's not your fault, okay?

That guy doesn't scare me. I was just worried about you.

[... Well, okay, it's true that Vanitas hadn't scared her... but the sight of a face she knew, warped like that (even if it was mostly just in color and... well, expression...) was an unsettling one. It rang familiar bells.]
