So, that nerdy angel guy...

I don't understand why fanart and AU fanfic tends to portray Castiel as the noticeably smaller, 'weaker', younger, or more emotional of the two, when he's featured with Dean.

Don't get me wrong, I still love and adore the art and fic. I just don't get it. Like, where it came from, when it started, if it's a fandom thing that I just haven't run

I feel like this is something I see frequently across the board in fandom, actually. If there's one half of a pairing that is remotely smaller than the other in any way, fandom automatically makes them tiny. Dean and Cas is a perfect example. In reading fic, people seem to think there's a 5" height difference between them, when really they're only about an inch apart. And Cas isn't exactly a tiny, weedy guy like most fic make him out to be. I see this ALL THE TIME in White Collar fandom, too. You would think Neal came up to Peter's chin with the way people write them.

It's been a long time since I've really engaged in this discussion, so I don't actually know my sources on this but I've gathered that a lot of it comes from the stereotypical depiction of seme/uke in yaoi. There's your ubermasculine top and the feminine bottom. Like I said, I actually don't follow this at all, so someone else can surely speak to this with much greater authority.

I'll stress again that I still love all the art and fic, seriously and for reals, and also that I'm not calling out the fandom like this is everyone, all the time. But.

But. There is a disconnect in my brain.

Because there's only like an inch (maybe two) height difference between Ackles and Collins. And while Ackles has more muscle, the two of them actually have quite similar frames, and it's not exactly as if Ackles is anywhere near Padalecki's musculature, where it's such a huge difference even so ( ... )

Bro, I'm with you 100%. Like, I agree with every word of this. Let's make friendship bracelets or something.

Yeah, uh, sorry about the wall of text, apparently I needed the outlet.

I remember in camp they said different colors in friendship bracelets meant different things, like... flower language or something. Do you think there's a combo that translates to "BAMF CAS 4 LIFE!"?
