9x10 "One to Go"

Oh yes, I cried. Whatever, I'm man enough to admit it. Anyway, how do you say goodbye to Gil Grissom after this many years and not at least sniffle a little? He'll be back, though, if only to visit Hank where he left him with Nick (shut up, he did so ( Read more... )

ITA with everything you said. And I think Nick talked about what he learned from Grissom because being the teacher was really Grissom's favorite identity with his team. When he went off two years ago on sabbatical, it was because he had no one left to teach.

I also really felt that it revealed the George/Billy relationship too. After CSI is over, I'd love to see George try stage work, especially with Billy. The crime of the last few years was how few Nick/Grissom scenes there were.

And yes. The best place for Grissom to have left Hank is with Nick.

I saw a brief aside on another board that said Grissom's "you were the best student I ever had, Nick," line was something Billy came up with himself, and of course George has already said how that scene was as much about his relationship with Billy as it was Nick's relationship with Grissom.

But that's nothing at all surprising. On this show it's always been the actors who understand their characters best, and fight hard for their integrity. Billy and George know Grissom and Nick, and I trusted them to do well by them, which they did.

From yesterday's Star-Telegram, which I assume is in Texas. George said,

"Even walking through these halls, being on these sets, it kind of reminds me of Star Wars, [like] Obi-Wan’s apparition’s there and I talk to him. Billy taught me well. Being from the theater, he taught me how to work scenes, make them work for me."

George has always been a delightfully huge fanboy of Billy's, and has said more than once in the past that the fictional relationship parallels the real one. I've always found that cute.

OMG.....jalola sent me over here to read your comments and yes I cried reading them as I've cried several (quite a few) times today...when watching the epi...twice...when watching THAT bit four or five times and writing to other friends about it....

I feel such a twit....it's only pretend and yet I feel bereft at GG's departure....and into the arms of that...their kiss was the stuff of gruesomeness...didn't JF look as if her lips were glued together? WP tried to make a go of it, but there's only so much you can do with inanimate props!!!

Incidentally there is a continuity gaffe in THAT scene; the shot of Nick putting his head down at the wonderful words (yep..tearing up again) Gil said and immediately the camera goes behind Nick and his head is up....I bet they had to break it up because GE said he fell apart at that mo' because WP wasn't supposed to say THOSE words!!

Hey do you mind if I 'friend' you??

It was always one of the biggest stumbling blocks in the romance. On paper and in theory it seems like a nice enough idea, but in practice it never worked out largely because the two actors simply never had chemistry with one another. And honestly, that's not either of their faults, especially since they've both had searing-hot chemistry with other people on the show. It's just never been with each other, and so scenes like the kiss or that ridiculous shaving thing seem awkward and squicky and gross to anyone who isn't absolutely devoted to the idea of them together.

You're the second person I've seen mention George commenting on Billy surprising him with the best student line, but I haven't been able to find the source anywhere. Do you know what article it came from, or where you heard it? I'm desperately curious.

And I don't mind at all!

It was in the TV Guide article. I believe we have links to the scans of the article posted at nick_discussion.

You are so right about the chemistry thing...which is why it could have worked with Lady H, Sofia and CW!!

Though I must say I didn't notice SS's has chemistry with anyone else...who are you referring too? Greggo?

Anyways...found the link...it was in nick_discussion on 06.01.09 taken from the WPAP pages and jalola then put it in one of her comments to the post!! Phew!!!

I absolutely loved Nicky's scenes too! He was so perfect in all of his scenes. I agree with everything you said about the two of them, and seeing as I watched Grave Danger just yesterday- with that one specific scene in my mind- it just made their little 'goodbye' scene so much more powerful, it was like the bit of resolution I've been waiting for since Grave Danger has finally been delivered and was practically spot on... just *wow*...

Write Gil/Nick fic please?

Thanks for this.

You know, the line "Of science and the human heart, there is no limit." is actually a U2 song lyric from their song Miracle Drug. As a U2 AND CSI fan, it was like the perfect marriage for me, that icon. You should check that song out, it's a personal favorite off their 2005 album, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. And with lyrics like that, I think it deserves a shot!

There's another U2 song that I thought could relate to CSI or Gil/Nickism. It's called "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own". But I drift now.
