Buttery Almond & Coconut Morning Buns

Apr 07, 2012 12:29

Mike and I recently drove up to watch my student in the regional spelling bee in Winston-Salem, NC. She did a fantastic job (stayed in until the last 5 kids!) but got out on the word ringent. I'll readily admit that I had to look it up myself ( Read more... )

Gorgeous, decadent looking rolls. I recently went on a baking binge (which I do quite often if you ever check out my LJ) and ended up with a nut-filled Swedish tea ring and raisin buns which I had to unload on the people at work because after tasting one or two, I don't want these things staying in my freezer, my house or even my area code cause I'm convinced the calories in them are all 'coming home to mama'. :)

Let's not even mention the rugelach.

I just got a camera for Xmas so I've been baking and taking pictures like a fiend. I'm not very good at food styling but I'm enthusiastic and always appreciate any comments. :)

Today I made a batch of sugar cookie dough and used the inexpensive new Easter cookie
cutters I just bought to cut them out. I supply teach at various pubic high schools in south-western Ontario (Canada) so I've been taking the cookies I make to school and sharing them with the kids or the office staff. So far, I've made cookies for Xmas, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and now Easter. We'll see what Halloween brings.

The kids must LOVE you (for plenty of reasons, I'm sure, but cookies don't hurt!) LOL. Love it! Can't wait to follow your baking adventures :)

"Sachem", in 8th grade. Thanks for evoking that memory for me. :)

That's a totally respectable word to get out on for sure ;)

Biscuit. in 5th grade.

Of all things, biscuit. I put the 'i' before the 'u' >.<

In grade 7, I spelled the word 'first' wrong. My only spelling mistake of the year. I transposed the 'i' and the 'r'. After 40-some years, I still remember that mistake.

Oh, transposing letters! Always a heartbreaker!

I want these.

And, millennium. I was in the final round. :( To this day I always have to second-guess the spelling.

That's a tough one! A local restaurant owner spelled that wrong on a flippin' billboard around 2000 ;)

Oh and in third grade, I had a weird brain fart and couldn't spell "key". Instead of saying "k...e...y", I said "Key...e...y". I didn't understand that I was saying "key" instead of the letter "K", and I was so pissed that I was being told it was wrong. I remember that vividly!

You TOTALLY should have been reinstated, for sure! I pronounced an "e" like an "i" (a common Southernism) in one of my school spelling bees and, when informed by another teacher, reinstated the kid who had gotten out on that word. All they have to go on is your correct pronunciation! (well, and language of origin, definition, part of speech... etc.)

:) Thanks!
