Natural dye easter eggs 2008

Mar 18, 2008 19:28

Hi there, Easter is approaching and I got together with a friend to dye some eggs.
I use a natural dye process with onion skins, and the designs come from real flowers and leaves from my garden. I bind the botanicals to the raw eggs by tying nylon stocking around them, then boil them in the onion skin dye for about the same time as regularly boiling eggs. Like so:

In previous years I used Oxalis leaves because they made a pretty design similar to a clover. This year I used a clump of the Oxalis flowers, didn't expect anything spectacular but it produced one of my favorite eggs from this year's batch, it's the center egg of the top picture. Even my bunny enjoyed them.

I've posted the directions on LJ before, here's a quick link back to one of the earlier posts.

Happy Easter, everyone!
