Sour Cream Blueberry Pie

It's blueberry season here in the forests of Bohemia. The wild berries here are not the big blue dusty-looking American berries - although the shops sell those as "Canadian blueberries", at obscene prices. They're actually bilberries, and they're much smaller and almost black in colour. You can pick them yourself if you have sharp eyes and ( Read more... )

It's false representation then, because our blueberries (at least in Québec) are big and blue.

It sounds like she's saying that the big blue dusty-looking berries are sold as "Canadian Blueberries".

No, don't worry. I didn't phrase it as clearly as I could have done. I'm blaming caffeine withdrawal, as I'm sitting at someone else's desk at work this week, and thus I don't have my stash of good Assam tea handy. Have been drinking the fruit tea that work supplies, as the actual tea supplied by work is Pickwick Earl Grey, which gives new meaning to the Banalitea of Evil...

Thank you I was goig to write that!

American blueberries taste sour and pretty much nothing... niw talk about Quebec blueberries and now we're talking about tiny mouthfulls of joy sweetness and juices.

Darn! I can't wait for the season to start! (in 2 weeks right?)

I'm curious about these differences in blueberries. Can you post a picture or two once you get some of your little blue joys?

That is one of the lovlier things I've seen recently.

My only experience with "Sour Cream Blueberry Pie" is a cheesecake-like custardy filling topped with blueberry compote.

I may have to make this for my husband who has fallen in love with (tasteless, American?) blueberries.

This pie is a custardy one, but the custard is made from the egg and the juices that cook out of the blueberries, giving it a beautiful colour and flavour.
