Something Cajun or Creole? Cajun chicken wings would keep well, are easy, and no one ever remembers Louisiana as 'Francophone'.

vichyssoise - easy and can be prepared in advance. although now after researching to find a recipe, it seems it may not be french. hey, at least it has a french name - http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Vichyssoise/Detail.aspx

Sure, I can direct you to a "Good Food Blog".

It's called "Food Porn" or "Recipe Maven" and it's found on LiveJournal.

There's a really good French Traveling bread that is de la campagne, and more traditional than 'classic' french City/Paris-style cooking.

It's basically a sourdough, with cooked sausage or other preserved meats rolled-up and cooked inside. I've heard of olives and onion bits baked inside, too. Maybe some hard cheese.

I'd imagine that you could just make a regular bread dough if you don't have sourdough. Just flatten it into a rectangle, layer the meat and whatever on it, then roll it up.

The idea is that farmers/workers/laborers would pack it up the night before, and carry it off to wherever they were working -- like a bag lunch, today -- and have something tasty and nutritious for the midday. This works well with your need to have something at 1 or 2 PM.

I meant to say in the fifth paragraph: "then roll it up before baking".

You don't want raw dough, do you? :-)
