Trader Joe's has "steakburgers," though they slightly different in that they are ground steak formed into patties. Still much tastier than your average hamburger, though!

Yeah, I've seen that term used before, in food as pedestrian as Burger King. I have a great picture of myself in front of a BK sign in Butte, Montana, where 'FIREGRILLED ANGUS STEAKBURGERS' had the G removed from ANGUS. The 'steak' in these is literal....though if we had a TJ's around here, I'd try theirs.

Heh. Love that that was in "Butte" Montana, too. (Yeah, apparently I'm a 10 year old).

I think steakburgers are a category unto themselves, though. For instance, my parents live in Western New York where there are a bunch of cheesy 50s-style diners that tout their ground steak hamburgers - and they're quite scrumptious. If you're ever in the area, I recommend Bill Grey's or Tom Wahl's...

Often when I order a "steak sandwich" at restaurants, I'm served what you're describing - which always pisses me off because I prefer Philly-style cheesesteaks. Oh, well.

I think if I get to western NY, I'll go for Buffalo Wings and Spiedies, but I'd certainly add ground steakburgers to the list.

Usually steak sandwich I associate with what I made above, but cheesesteak with the thin-sliced steak mixed with cheese on a roll. Luckily, there's an excellent cheesesteak place close to here....

Those are beautiful.

I'm going to have to make that the next time I get a chance.

Mmm....

On a side note...there are still Big Boys in existance?

It's been a while since I've seen one, but I assume so. They're mostly back east from what I can tell, nowhere near where I live these days. Being a hockey fan, however, I've seen ads recently for big boys on some hockey rink walls, so I assume there are some still in existance.

Brilliant! Sort of Cordon bleu trailer park food.

That's what I was thinking, too. I could have added bacon.....that would have been tasty.....

Nah, too many salty things. And that should be Cordon bleu à la parc de remorque. Looks classy on a menu!

Oh those look sooooo good... Tenderloin and blue cheeses are two of my biggest weaknesses.

Looks yummy! Unfortunately I have an open bite and would never be able to bite into one. (I have a terrible time with even chicken sandwiches!)

me too! it's so frustrating to take a bite of a sandwich and all the meat/lettuce/whatever comes out, too!
